We have slowly been decorating our home and have just (re) started decorating our kitchen. And this salt and pepper mill set are a great way to add a bit of whimsy and fun to a kitchen. They have such a great modern design. So when I was offered the chance to review them, I was very excited. They come in a purple box with instructions on the back.The top is made of stainless steel and the base is glass. To fill them, remove the steel grinder top and pour the salt (or pepper or whatever spices you are planning to use) inside. Even though it is metal, the top is comfortable to grip and turns smoothly. This can be a big deal if you cook regularly. I don’t cook that much (certainly not as much as I should) but I do work in front of a computer a LOT so when I do cook, I want a grinder that’s convenient, that I can twist quickly, and that won’t give me carpal tunnel.I also like that, at approximately 6 by 3 by 6 inches, these mills are medium-sized. Spices lose their flavor as they age and our kitchen is not a restaurant so we don’t need a ton of spices and we don’t need to refill these all the time. In fact, they are just about the perfect size for our kitchen. And they’re clear. Not only does that mean that they go with our kitchen but it means that I can tell when I am running low on salt or pepper. Because trust me, it’s seriously annoying to be in the middle of making a Mediterranean salad or whatever, after work and when Trader Joe’s is shut and discover that oops.. pepper is gone.I like too that they are designed so that the dispenser faces up. This means that I don’t have to worry about cleaning up the stray salt/pepper particles—making the kitchen that much cleaner.I really like this set. It spices up (pun intended) the kitchen a bit, is easy to fill and refill, does not cause a mess, is super-easy and comfortable to use and while I haven’t had it all that long, it feels quite durable.
