Accurate and enjoyable to read
I’ve read multiple introductory books on Buddhism, and this is probably my favorite. The author’s conversational style and personal life stories make it enjoyable to read. I also like that he doesn’t shy away from discussing the supernatural elements of Buddhism, which many introductory books for the casual reader tend to do. In this way, he helps give the Western reader a more comprehensive view of the topic and dispels common misconceptions. Another strength of this text is that it encourages us to think for ourselves. It doesn’t preach that Buddhism has the right answer for everything or that we should be Buddhist ourselves. The author himself is Buddhish, which essentially means he incorporates some aspects into his life but doesn’t necessarily subscribe to everything. This book occupies a happy medium between most other casual introductory books that sterilize Buddhism for the western reader and the more dense academic textbooks that are accurate but not as fun to read. I recommend it.

A relatable, insightful, easy-to-read and entertaining book!
HIGHLY RECOMMEND! Even the moderately curious (or even skeptical) will find something great in this book! It's like a smart and fun conversational with a good friend (who just happens to know a lot about Buddhism) but makes it wildly accessible, entertaining and easy-to-digest in short, impactful chapters that are simple to comprehend. The book will make you want to look at your own life and enjoy the journey more!

Cut to the chase without all the lists
Pierce Salguero gets to the heart, the bones, the nitty gritty of Buddhism without the dogma. Take a look at the 4 noble truths, the 8 fold path, the big pillars that frame Buddhism. His take is, here it is, take a look, see for yourself and choose with discernment. No heavy rhetoric, just a practical look at Buddhism from a Buddh-ish perspective.

Avoid, you will get more out of meditation than reading this book
"Buddhish, not Buddhist" is an interesting concept. The problem with this book, however, is that there is too much emphasis on Buddhism in the modern world as opposed to what is taught in the ancient traditions. The author overwrites and (dialectically) negates such traditional Buddhist doctrines with the doctrine of political correctness instead. He unquestionably accepts "the current thing" with regards to recent but already passé political events in the United States, even when traditional Buddhism (regardless of which particular tradition) would deny the fleeting importance of "the current thing." Since there is too much reference to the political events of 2019-2020, this book will not stand the test of time. Avoid and just meditate instead, or find a more objective introduction to Buddhism.
