I use these to break up a boulder under my grass. I’m glad I got 10 because in my case, I had to have seven of them in the boulder all at once to get it to split.

Rock hounding is our hobby and we invested into a couple sets of these to add to the toolbox. They help split rock with ease. Rust is not a deterrent as all of our tools are used and abused and regularly exposed to the elements, but the steel these are made of seems very susceptible to surface rust. It's only surface rust, and it doesn't affect how they work. Just spray them down with oil.One last thing is the rubber O ring is pretty fragile. If you you're just looking to do a little work in your yard or a foundation, you should have no problem. But if you're looking to really put them to the test, I suggest ordering a pack of replacements because the O rings will split and snap under more aggressive use.

This is my inaugural rock splitting venture after watching 2 weeks of videos on the subject, so I was naturally excited about trying this for myself. I read the reviews on this which were 4 1/2 stars, and not only do I concur with those positive reviews, but I give them 5 stars! They work as advertised, and on Granite like hard rock that was over 600 lbs.I'd recommend this to a friend or anyone looking for something to split hardened stone boulders.

Works beautifully. Able to reuse eight or nine times to split 3000lb boulder into manageable pieces.Used 5/8" diameter concrete/rebar star drill in rotary demolition hammer. Worked well in hard granite/gneiss, slower speed fractured the drilling face better than higher speed. Use a running hose to cool and flush out chips. Never drill dry.

Used these on 30" deep foundation footers. Dug along one side about 12" down and placed a couple of these horizontal and then 2 more across the top and 1 more down the other side. Cracked it like a egg!. Repeated every 4 feet or so and made the job so much easier. Removed 400lb plus chunks with skidsteer. Crazy old tech but works great.

Used to break up sandstone to use in a walk path in the garden. By predrilling several holes in a straight line, it was easy to have the rock crack to give a nice straight edge. The only issues I had was when I got to a rock that was too hard for the drill bit, as long as I could get the hole drilled the wedge worked great.

If you can't split rock using these, I can't help you.

I bought these to break up some big rocks in my yard and they work great, in fact its pretty fun to use them and pretty amazing how well they work. I have been pounding them pretty hard and they have held up so far.
