I don't have time for bad coffee at work -
So my wife purchased the Melitta for me!I had worked at another job where one of my coworkers had one of these, and he would make coffee for me on occasion. This was such a quick & pleasant device - and made such a good, strong cup of coffee (right when you needed it) that I needed one at my current job. This is super-quick & easy to use - you'll figure out your 'routine' in no time. I can usually make a solid cup of coffee in < 2 minutes and have my coworkers asking me to make them a cup :)There are no drawbacks to this device - you can 'almost' use any filter - as I have tried several, just conforming them to the basket. I have found that sometimes they get a little boggy (the larger filters), but if you just lift the sides a little, your coffee will resume streaming out into your cup.As an aside, I never use soap on the basket, I just rinse it with water & may wipe it out with a wet paper towel.I hope that this helps you!

It's just a funnel
I have plenty of coffee mugs, This seems a bit overpriced for what it is. I feel like I could make my own after seeing it, it's just plastic. I was expecting something ceramic.

Coffee is Weak
I was very hopeful that this Melitta would be the office solution for a great cup of strong coffee. blah. Have tried it about 6 times now and can't give it a review higher than 3 stars. the biggest positive is the clean-up. easy peasy. throw out filter, rinse dripper cone.I drink decaf but I like my coffee STRONG. For many many years, I was using the french press (way before it was popular) but a pain to clean. Then in the last 6 years, I switched to the vietnamese metal filter. I use the big one like 11 or 12 oz (the small one is way too small) and I use the one with the screw insert. I have the gravity insert but prefer the screw insert. I buy it at an asian market for $5. Makes great strong coffee but it's 3 pieces to clean. At home, my husband has a fancy expresso machine but I use the aeropress on the weekends. I don't take the aeropress to work because I use the paper cups and I don't think paper cups can take the pressure needed to push the coffee out. Regardless, still 3 pieces to clean & requires a filter. As for this Melitta drip, I use the Melitta filter and I have added a napkin under the filter to slow the drip. I have added a paper towel under the filter. I have added an extra scoops of coffee. I buy my Peets coffee (decaf Major Dickensons) from the supermarket, if I had to take it home and re-grind it, that would be an extra hassle that I wouldn't like to mess with if I didn't have to. So, the coffee just drips just a bit too fast for me. I'm back to my vietnamese metal drip. I only drink one large cup of coffee a day so I deserve a good one.

Perfect Brewed single Cup
I have a coffee press but the press makes more coffee than an need, I can't keep it hot over time and I dislike cleaning it. This single cup brewer makes one mug (10 oz still leaves a little room at the top) and it brews quickly if you have hot water available. A tea kettle, electric hot water kettle or an instant hot water dispenser (which I love on my sink) helps make this very convenient for one or more cups of coffee. Microwaving your water will work, too. I use two coffee scoops (my scoop measures 2 tsp) but your choice may be different. I have the #2 filters and can just pick up the spent coffee in the filter and add it to my compost bin. The only thing I don't like is that the mug, which is very nice, doesn't have a flat bottom so it doesn't work well with my mug warmer on my desk so it I want one for the office, I just use a different coffee mug.
