We live in the foothills of the Cascade Mountains outside Seattle and get 56 inches of rain a year so I like to use raincoats for my long haired Rough Collie as it takes forever for her to dry.PROS: This is a very high quality product and even though it is a shell it is a heavier material and actually keeps her dry. It is also the first one to cover both her hips and her neck. It uses a strap under the belly with snaps on the sides (far better than velcro) which are tucked up in little pockets so they don't snag on anything and it looks clean.CONS: Leg loops are elastic straps that go around her back legs (optional) and they get caught in her hair 1/2 the time. The leash portal (to attach to a harness) is in the wrong spot for all of the harnesses we use and doesn't line up when using it over a midlayer.Overall though the best jacket.

It is not helpful to comment on the fit of a dog coat without also including the measurements of the dog. My 40 lb doodle has a 17” neck, 26” girth, and 20” back length. The small fits her perfectly. Being able to flip the collar up/down provides flexibility with weather conditions. The split at the tail is a nice touch that accommodates different kinds of tails. We do have to use the elastics around her back legs to keep the coat from twisting. The coverage along the back and sides is excellent.The underbelly coverage is just OK, because the default design for dog coats is to accommodate male anatomy, which exposes a lot of underbelly to the elements. If this coat came with a female version, it could be secured further back on the body, providing more complete coverage of the underbelly. Ruffwear should consider making gender specific coats; they’d be the only ones on the market and would garner the gratitude (& sales!) of a lot of dog owners.I didn’t give the coat 5 stars because the side buckles for the coat are buried deep inside pockets. Unless you have the flexibility of a gymnast or your dog is as tall as the kitchen table, they are a royal pain to find & hook up. Just too darn fiddly, and problematic if you have back/hip/knee issues.Still, we’ve tried a lot of different rain coats and this is the best one we’ve found. The material/quality is great, the coverage is excellent, it doesn’t have ridiculous pockets or hood, the sizing is spot on.

This rain coat just arrived today. We live in Tampa, FL so it is very hot even in the winter. While I ordered rugs for Finlay from the makers of the horse rugs we bought over the years for our horses they were absolutely well made but lined. Even in January (and this is the coldest in 4 years for Tampa) we only get down to just freezing or high 20's and in the summer can be well over 100. As Shelties are double coated with a full thick coat, he was in danger of over-heating. Then I found this - which is NOT lined, is extremely light weight, has leg straps, the chest straps are completely adjustable and the collar can be put up or folded down. We have torrential (and many times sudden/unexpected) rain, so I thought this a good attempt to minimize all the wet fur/hair. Of course the minute it was delivered, it stopped raining here so I'll have to post another review when we get caught in the rain, but so far I am extremely happy with the fit and design of this. This is the first pictures of him wearing the coat - as it is so light-weight, he doesn't even care that it's on.

as with all ruffwear stuff, excellent product - durable, comfortable, looks good

I have been searching for about 3 years for a raincoat for our Australian Labradoodle. He is very broad chested & everything that I was finding that fit him in the chest was too long over the back or covered his private parts. This raincoat works great for him. It has a harness part across the chest that doesn't cover the privates & the length across his back is perfect. I usually have to buy him an XXL in other clothing but the medium in this jacket fit very well.

The Sun Shower raincoat kept our pup dry on a miserable March morning trek with her dog pack! Am happy with our purchase.

There are a lot of cheaper doggy raincoats out there- I looked at them all and have owned a few. None of them have the features you need. This raincoat is perfect. The size chart is very accurate- it says to order down if your dog is between sizes-like mine- and this is accurate. He is an 18 lb. bichon, 21 inches around at the widest part of his chest, and I ordered him XS. It's an excellent fit- there is an adjustable strap around the middle so you can let it out if it feels too snug. The length was good- approximately 16 inches from neck to base of the tail. The workmanship is very good- I sew, so I always look at the seams to get an idea of how well-put-together something is. You can use it with a harness- most raincoats only have a slit where the collar goes. It has elastic to slip around the back legs so it doesn't blow up when there is wind, and the back panels overlap, so there is room for the tail to do whatever it does. My boy's is curly and he HATES it when his coat is laying on top. He is also not very fond of wearing any kind of coat, but he seems not to mind this one because it's really lightweight. It's twice as expensive as most other raincoats, but you basically get what you pay for. I'm thinking of ordering a second because I am so pleased with this one.
