Fun primer on nutrition, gardening, and attitude adjustment for the youngest minds!
An engaging story that might just challenge youngsters to rethink some of their dislikes while encouraging families to eat well and maybe even plant some vegetables!

It's ok to change your mind
My 2 year old loves this book! We read it before bed and strangely she has woken up in the morning asking for spinach. (No joke, but then she thinks for a while and asks for chocolate.) The story involves a girl in school who dislikes spinach yet changes her mind after she reluctantly accepts the opportunity to grow spinach in class and eats her spinach. I'm not a fan of a couple statements like "stupid spinach", but it doesn't take away from the story or lessons learned. As for learnings, this story has encouraged conversations about it being ok to change your mind about liking something. I've also been able to encourage my daughter to try new foods by doing what Sylvia does: first she smells the spinach leaf, then she licks it, and then she bites into it. We've followed that 'process' with broccoli, and it worked (once). Overall, it's a great story and would make a great gift alongside the Green Toys indoor gardening kit and some spinach seeds.

Makes eating veggies sound good
My daughter loves this book and the illustrations. I like that it encourages kids to eat veggies! After reading it, she wanted to try zucchini...she didn't care for it (she's 5) but she was willing to try and that is awesome.

Cute book to teach a good lesson to children
I just ordered this book to read to my three children since we garden, and eating vegetables is important to our family.I read this book and loved it. I like the message of trying new foods, as well as showing children the steps of gardeningand reaping the 'fruits' of their labor. As an elementary teacher, this book would be perfect to go along with my soils, planting, and gardening unit I teach in the spring. If you like gardening or want a book to go along with a gardening unit for chidlren, this would be a perfect book to buy!

Where was this book 30 years ago?!
Opening Sylvia's Spinach last week, I was not quite sure what to expect. What I found was a delightful story with beautiful illustrations, relaying a distinct message that will resonate with parents - and more importantly, with kids: it's good to try new things! Kids need to hear this message and Sylvia's Spinach delivers, as Sylvia goes from loathing spinach, to begrudgingly growing it, to hesitantly trying it, to actually liking it. The book is about far more than spinach and food, but those provide an ideal lens through which to look at bigger lessons. Kudos to Katherine Pryor for relaying this timeless message!

Zora's Zucchini was great.
I teach a healthy eating class at the elementary school in our county. Zora's Zucchini work right into the lesson. I love the illustrations too! What a good idea, to show how to be kind and share.

Overall great book, one small thing I didn't care for
Overall we really like this book... it was the perfect book to go with a lesson on spinach for my classroom for Farm to School Month. There's one small thing I disliked, but not a deal breaker. I don't care for Sylvia's language of saying something was "stupid", and wish the author would have written that part differently.

I want more spinach!
I bought two of these books to give to my grandchildren as gifts. There ages range from 3 to 7 years old. Two of the children love spinach and wanted to plant their own after reading the book. One of the children does not like spinach but has since started eating it because of the story. I would recommend this book!

Con retraso
El cuento es muy bonito, manejable y de buena calidad.Lo necesitaba en una semana y, al quererlo en inglés, he tenido que esperar un mes para recibirlo (en castellano llegaba al día siguiente).
