Novapolt External CD Drive USB 3.0 - Ultra Slim DVD Drive CD DVD Writer/Rewriter/CD Burner for High Speed Data Transfer for Laptops Desktops and Notebooks

I got this CD/DVD reader/writer in February 2017. I did not have occasion to use it for writing a disc until June 2017, at which time I found it would not perform this function. I had no other problems with reading discs.I contacted Novapolt and they immediately sent me a new device, without further questions (other than to provide my order info). I did not have to go through the inconvenience of sending back the defective drive.Though the initial purchase was defective, the company came through and I am quite satisfied. The replacement works as expected.

Works great with my Surface 3 (not Surface Pro 3) but you definitely need an AC powered hub. My Anker Unibody USB 3.0 7-port Aluminum Hub serves the purpose. Plug the Anker into the Surface USB port, plug the Anker into your wall plug for power, then plug the Novapolt into the Anker. The device doesn't show up in File Explorer until a disk is inserted in the Novapolt.

I purchased this item with the hopes of burning some data DVDs to free up hard drive space on my laptop and be able to burn cds or dvds from my desktop as needed. Well, I tried on at least 3-4 computers with no success. The drive was not recognized by the cd/dvd burning programs. I could not find the answer on google, I spoke with friends that work in IT and my brother who is a computer programmer and they couldn't figure it out. The driver works and it reads discs but no burning software recognized it as a burner and I tried at least 5 different burning programs.I finally broke down and emailed Novapolt and got a response within a day saying they forwarded it to their tech support people. Well that was June and I am writing this review in December and have yet to hear back. I have emailed a few times since June with no response. Based on the reviews here it must work for some people but if it doesn't you just bought a fancy paperweight.

I buy these for my co-workers since they don't have a DVD player for their laptops and they travel a lot. They are easy to use and everyone seems to like them. I have had no complaints, even though I have yet to test one out. We keep buying more of these as they are compact, easy to use and carry with the laptop, plus I keep getting more co-workers getting laptops instead of PCs. The delivery has been on time, or ahead of time and in perfect shape, so the supplier is doing a good job on their end. I have not had to send anything back as non-working or with any problems whatsoever. You buy what works well, doesn't cost a fortune and get on time. I do, anyway.

As my Toshiba laptop's disc drive stopped working, I decided to go the external USB approach. This product arrived on my doorstep in a nondescript box. What I immediately noticed was that there was no enclosed USB cable - until I discovered it was built in and had it's own storage crevice on the bottom of the device. With as much as I travel, that was a very nice touch. I removed the cable from its container and plugged it into my USB slot. Within seconds, I was ready to go. I am one of those guys that still purchases physical copies of music and then imports them into my library on the laptop. I was able to import 15 cd's within minutes, the speed was impressive and much faster than my own disc drive before it stopped working.On a whim, I plugged the device into my wife's HP desktop. Same thing. Up and running within seconds, in this case before I had even placed the item down after plugging it into the USB slot.I can not recommend this product enough. Exceptionally user friendly, easy storage, built in USB cable with a storage crevice to prevent damage and plug and play no matter the system or maker.

It is truly plug and play. The transmission speed is excellent. I needed a CD drive that would support DVD+/-RW which this one does (not all CD drives support this format). Great product!

I've owned and used this CD/DVD drive for 9 months. I use it on a daily basis, primarily to perform nightly backups of my laptop and it has worked very well. I have only two complaints. 1) the connection cable is a bit too short. I would prefer that the cable be about 50% longer; and 2) The cable has a storage slot in the bottom of the drive. I remove the cable each night to connect it to my laptop and when I complete my nightly backups I disconnect the cable from the laptop and place the cable in the slot on the bottom of the drive for storage. Doing this every night for 9 months has caused the insulation at one spot on the cable to fail, exposing the inside of the cable. I wrapped cable at the failure location with electrical tape but once a month I have to replace the tape as it too shows signs of wear.
