I connect 2 of these to make a large hamster enclosure
First of all, I wanted to say that if you love your pet hamster/rat/mouse/gerbil/etc then you could buy 2 of these cages and remove the wire panel to connect both of them. They will align perfectly and provide your pet a very large enclosure that not only has unbroken running space but also has levels and wooden houses. Second, to be able to place a large wheel in these cages you will not be able to add the third level at the top. As you can see in the pic, I don’t have the third level in the cage because I have a 12 inch wheel for my hamster. There’s enough room to even place a smaller wheel in the bottom. My hamster is a baby so she has a 8inch wheel on the bottom but at some point she will outgrow that. My third point: the BEST thing about these cages is that they do not have a funky smell when they first arrive. I have bought so many wooden cages for my hamsters and all have had very funky, very strong wood odors when they first arrived. I had to air them out for 2 weeks before I let my hamsters in them. If you know about hamsters then you’ll know how sensitive they are to strong smells. But with these cages, there was hardly any smell at all. And that is amazing and deserving of 5 stars in my opinion. Hamsters health, especially their respiratory health, is extremely important. So having a lack of strong odor trumps any minor issues I’ve had with these cages. And I’ve only had 2 small issues. The first issue is that the tray does not slide in and out very easily. That’s ok… I can get it out, but it just doesn’t slide as easily as the trays in my other cages. It could be the way I put them together. Maybe something is a little off. But it’s really no big deal. The second issue is that if you try to place two of the wooden houses together, they don’t fit together because there is an overhang in the front of each house. This can be fixed by not putting it together with the overhang in the front, but rather in the back. Then the two houses will fit together fine with an overhang in the back of each side. I place two of the wooden houses together for my large Syrian hamster and then wedge them down into the bedding with about 8inches of bedding underneath and my hamster goes inside the house and then burrows down to create a little nest/burrow. Then I place several paper towels on top to hang over the entrance to each side and it makes sort of like a bunker for my hamster, which she loves. She feels safe and secure this way. People complain that because of the wire panel on the side that you cannot place deep bedding in these cages. Well that’s not true. I bought plexiglass panels for one side and I attached them on top of the wire panel. Then I filled the cage with bedding and I’ve had no issues. So that’s why two cages are perfect. One side is filled deep with bedding and the other side is for their wheels and toys. When you put the little wooden houses together , if you do it the way that I suggested then you’ll have to drill your own holes…. You won’t be able to use the pre cut holes. Be careful so you don’t split the wood. Use very small screws and go slowly because I almost split the wood when I did it this way.Another good thing about this cage is that the wood is very sturdy and heavy duty. It’s much heavier and sturdy than the other wooden cages I’ve bought in the past.Another thing, the Ramps are steep. It is hard for my older Syrian hamsters to get up and down. So I fold up a bunch of paper towels and place them beneath the bottom of the ramp to make it a little less steep. Also, if you’re worried about your hamster falling then you could glue popsicle sticks to the sides of the ramp to make it more secure. But honestly I don’t think placing the third level in the cage is a good idea unless there is a lot of deep bedding at the bottom in case they fall.Hope this helps someone. I have never been a fan of aquariums and never liked the ikea detolf for hamsters. So that’s why I prefer wooden cages. It’s extremely difficult to find a nice wooden cage that is hamster safe. But I believe these are some of the best and I highly recommend them. I’ve owned 7 hamsters and never had one escape from these cages. I’m not sure if an animal like a rat could chew out. I’ve seen my hamsters try and the wood is just too thick and sturdy for them to chew through. So we’ve never had an escape.

Looks Nice but Larger than Claimed
I searched and searched for aa cage that would fit a specific area in my home. I read the dimensions on this one and it would fit, so this is the one I chose. Unfortunately their dimensions were inaccurate and the cage is larger than the claimed dimensions so it will not fit in the space I got for it. Super frustrated. Still 3 stars though because it looks nice and is decently made.

Nice
easy to build BUT the smell is so terrible as soon as you open the box it hits you by time I was done building it I had a headache from the smell might want to ware gloves had to wash hands 3 time to try and get smell off I had to put in the hallway of my apartment building to let air out open my patio door to get air in to get smell out would set out outside over night if it wasnt a snow storm right now hopefully the smell will go away. Also there is a gap where my hand is big enough for hamster to get out so I will be adding my own wood in the gap once the smell is gone and I can use the cage

Missing screws
Decided to put this together for our grandson before giving it to him at Christmas. It's nice looking BUT was missing screws for the latch on front, and 4 other screws and one of the ramps the hinge was on the wrong side. Fortunately my husband was able to find some extra screws he had and got it finally put together. They say to check to see if you have all the supplies, but you won't know about the screws until you need them, anyway I pray it will hold up but wasn't happy with having screws missing AND forgot that also not everything was predrilled.

Okay for smaller rodents
Assembly was really easy. The tray at the bottom is designed to be removed for easy cleaning but there’s no way that the bedding is going to clear the opening so don’t expect to remove the tray for cleaning and replace it. To clean the enclosure you would need to pull out the two shelving units and then scoop out the bedding. I was hoping to put four guinea pigs in here but there is no way it’s large enough for four pigs. You could possibly fit three although you could put multiple smaller rodents in it. The enclosures for hiding that come with it are nowhere near large enough for guinea pigs. My two pigs that are in there access all three levels. Also, we haven’t found a proper food dispenser that can hook on the wire sides. It’s actually not bad for two pigs but it did not solve my desire to combine two cages. Another issue is that when the pigs run around the cage the bedding does come through the sides and the front panel. I’m not sure how that’s possible but it makes for a lot of cleanup.

Hard to clean
This cage is AMAZING, except I cannot pull out the tray for cleaning at all. Makes for a messy clean! Have to scoop bedding out with a litter scooper and cannot rinse the tray clean like I wanted.

Nice simple cage
Nice cage, only had it for about a month. It wasn't hard to put together but I advise using glue along with the screws. I bought longer screws, the ones provided didn't seem to bite very well.

Too small for chinchillas but really cute.
Easy to assemble but I had to modify it slightly. Too small for chinchillas/rats. Keeping the cage as a backup for when I clean the other one. The latch falls off sometimes. Just needs a longer screw.
