Scrat--A Metaphor for Doing Science
When I first was dragged to see Ice Age II, I dreaded it. I've now watched the Ice Age movies dozens of times. Scrat is the single most resonant character I've seen in an animation--his single-minded and fanatic determination to achieve the unreachable is an utterly compelling visual metaphor for scientists (and artists), for whom the goal is always just beyond their grasp and for whom each achievement leads only to the quest for the next. The ending of Ice Age II, in particular is sublime, since science (especially mathematics and physics) is full of jokes/urban legends of great names saying that they are looking forward to asking god about the solution to turbulence, the Riemann hypothesis, etc... and anticipating that god will be unable to provide the answer. The DVDs are particularly useful since they allow you to skip over the very forgettable main stories and watch only the Scrat segments and because they include a great Scrat short. Highly recommended for anyone of any age doing science or contemplating doing science.

Poor Scrat
Will he ever get any satisfaction? These are overall excellent movies for both kids and adults. They are good message movies and have lots of humor. The Meltdown does drag a bit at times, but I still have to give these movies 5 stars because they are good clean movies with no bad language or sexual innuendos which kids do not need to be exposed to. The Meltdown is at least as good as Ice Age, if not better. The CGI animation of these movies are second to none, being as good as anything Disney/Pixar has produced. Anybody who has kids around, or just enjoys G rated movies with a quality plot should buy these movies--you will likely not be disappointed. Since most movies seem to be trilogies today, we can hope that the probable third installment of this movie is as good as these two. I want to see the third Ice Age movie with Scrat as a lead character where the poor fella finally has some good luck for a change.

Great family fun!
The Ice Age movies are fantastic. The animators are perfectionists and spend a great deal of time getting it right in terms of characters; the movies are also hilarious for the entire family. I have each of the Ice Age and Scrat movies to date and can't wait until Ice Age 4 comes out in 2012. I've also bought the entire series to give as Christmas gifts for my grandchildren this year. I recommend this wonderful animated film.

Iceage and Iceage The meltdown
Once again, I have a thing for animation, and this movie collection has a place in my collection. These movies are great entertainment for children and fun loving adults. In all honesty, I liked the Meltdown a little more because there was a bit more fun and action and more hilarious animals. Buy it, I think if you like to laugh and have fun (regardless of your age) that these are movies you will enjoy!

Belly laughs and watery eyes
My family loves this series. I was disappointed because I thought I was ordering the entire 3-movie series but that was my mistake. These are funny movies and, unlike many sequels, keep getting better. Dawn of the Dinosaurs is our all time favorite. We pretty much have every line Sid says memorized. What's not to love about that guy right?

NOT THE FIRST AND SECOND, IT'S THE SECOND AND THIRD
This is advertised as the first and second Ice Age movies. Instead, it had the second and third.I wanted to get my son all 5 Ice Age movies, so now I have to return the 2nd Ice Age Dawn of the Dinosaurs (the 3rd installment) that's on it's way to my house right now, and buy the first one "again."

Priceless
Had to get these after seeing them on cable. They are hysterical and good for children, as they all teach good life lessons. Watch them with your kids, or if like me you don't have any, just watch them and get a belly-ache from laughing so hard.Try the Madagascar series as well. Also very funny.
