A magnificent book about the greatest watchmaker of the modern era.
This wonderful book is the perfect companion to George Daniels' autobiography "All In Good Time", adding innumerable details about his life and work that are not in the earlier book. If it went no further than that, it would be an essential book for anyone interested in horology. But there are pictures! Among them are dozens of breathtaking, superbly printed color photos of Daniels' watches, many larger than life, inside and out, in nearly microscopic detail. With unprecedented clarity the photos show Daniels' hand-engraved and rose-engine turned dials and the graceful shapes and immaculate finish of the hundreds of inner components that cannot be seen outside the case. Daniels was both artist and technical innovator; both sides of his creative work are exhibited beautifully here. Then there's Daniels' life story, so unlikely you would think it fiction. He rose from grinding, Dickensian poverty to the inner circles of British aristocracy, propelled by a formidable intellect, an heroic work ethic, unmatched artistic skill and unstoppable ambition. What a life! What a book! If I had a hat, it would be off to Michael Clerizo.Bill Taylor ASC

For those who love their watches this is the master designer and fabricator.
I discovered George Daniels in 1978 from a magazine article. Since then I have purchased every one of his books to learn what he knows and how he thinks. Being a camera repairman for over 42 years I have an affinity for precise things that are mechanical. This is the best book I've ever read on both his personal work as well as the way he thought when approaching the problems of designing completely new ways for the mechanical watch to keep time.I am also a fan of the beauty of the design of his watches and there are no others which can compete with his work.I read biographies to learn about other people and how they think and live. George Daniels was such an inspiration coming from a "street urchin" to "the man with million dollar hands" that his story and the beauty of his creations will inspire even if you don't have a passion for watches.

Dividing seconds
With a plan from Scientific American`s Amateur Scientist, in the sixties I built a very accurate electronic timepiece using tunnel diodes. The process was enjoyable as I was good with electronics and things mechanical. After reading A Master Watchmaker and His Art, I realize I should have spent my "time" building my first mechanical watch and who knows how many more after. The images in this book are superb. The book is superb; An insight to one or two of the aspects of humanity.

Details of the Daniel’s watches
This book presents a complete review of all the watches Daniels made. With the detailed internal photographs, the book is better than holding the watches in one’shand.

Daniels
This book is actually better than I expected it to be, I have the autobiography and I felt this may be more of the same. However it's content is diiferent, even though I knew George this new book describes him a differnt manner. The photo's are superb and that alone would justify buying this book

Michael Clerizo a bien connu George Daniels. 216 Pages, 240 ill., 29.5 x 29.5 cm

Must have

This is a lovely book - a good companion to "Watchmaking" and "All in Good Time"
Before I bought this book, I was a little concerned that it might excessively duplicate the contents of the George Daniels books I already have, and especially Daniels's autobiography, "All in Good Time". I couldn't find any reviews which answered this question - despite there being (I imagine) quite a lot of people out there who already have those books.Let me answer that question. I needn't have worried.Whilst there is necessarily some duplication of content about Daniels's early life (his life events are hardly going to have changed) Michael Clerizo offers us a rather different perspective. It's clear that Michael Clerizo had a great deal of respect and affection for George Daniels, and it shows. Whereas Daniels's autobiography comes across as a little stiff and stilted in places (and perhaps with a whiff of self importance on a few occasions), Michael Clerizo shows us a much warmer and more rounded man who is generous with his time and his knowledge. If you'll pardon the pun, you get a much better feel for what made George Daniels tick. The format of the book is generous (perhaps even slightly unwieldy), but the illustrations are excellent and generous - some are familiar from other books, but there are many that are new to me.I have quite a lot of horology books on my bookshelves, including those by George Daniels. This book deserves to stand proud in their company.

A Masterly Analysis
This volume is an analysis of the work of George Daniels, the world's foremost watchmaker for perhaps two hundred years. The explanations are clear and lucid (pages of his workbooks are included), the development of the designs are carefully explained and the photography is beautiful. If you are at all interested in top end horology you will not regret investing in this book.
