A Very Helpful Resource
I want to start this by stating that I have a minor understanding of music. As a bass player I learned how to read music and play one note at a time, but I never felt like I would be able to tackle the guitar or play chords. That's not to say I haven't tried, but nothing I've done so far has felt right. With the help of this e-book I finally have an easy way to focus directly on the chords. The very beginning of the book clearly explains how to use the symbols and notations used for instruction, and then jumps right in to teaching individual notes, which are of the roots of the chords. The handbook instructs on music theory and technique, but not enough to bore you, and gets right into what is interesting about guitars, which is playing them! Going along with this is the instructional videos which correspond to the lessons. The videos are very helpful and go at a pace that is follow-able for beginners like me. Damon is very professional in the videos and is conscious of his audience. The videos are a real highlight of the e-book, as the links embedded in the lessons will instantly take you to the video on YouTube, and then when you are done you can go directly back to where you left off. The only downside here is that you need internet connection to connect to the videos. Overall though this has been a great tool so far, and I hope to continue using it to expand my musical education.

An incredible, hands-on approach to improving guitar skills
I've been teaching myself how to play the guitar for the past 10 years, and about 2 years ago I seemed to hit a roadblock. I felt that I had taught myself everything that I could on my own. I took additional lessons with guitarists since then, but haven't been satisfied with my progression, as I had always felt more comfortable learning alone. I had the opportunity to talk to Damon Ferrante personally about his book, and after our discussion, I had to pick it up.What I found was the most accessible guitar book I've yet to discover, and the most compatible for my learning style. The scales and arpeggios in the book are broken down in simple terms so you won't be wasting any time trying to figure out what the text means, but rather will be learning to shred right away. The video lessons are incredibly helpful as well. You get the personal touch of being shown how to do something, without the pressure of a live instructor in front of you. My favorite, however, has to be the jam tracks. Once you begin to enhance your guitar skills, playing to the jam tracks is a great amount of fun, and certainly shows you how much you've improved since picking up this book.I can't say enough about how much this book has reinvigorated my love of learning to improve, and has also increased the range of my creative capabilities. If you are looking to start learning guitar, or, like I did, feel stuck, and want to break down the walls in front of you, this book is BEST option available.

Practice up those guitar chops
I have started learning the first few chapters of this book and it seems to be a good tool for various guitar exercises. I've played guitar for about 15 years now, and wanted something new to brush up my chops. It fits the bill. However, when I looked for a general list of all keys of a particular scale, I was left empty. For example, there are various exercises on a couple different minor and major keys in a few fret positions, however not ever key is covered. I know, I know. To the experienced guitar theory person, it's easy just to move the same scales up or down as necessary in order to play in the desired key. I feel that his other book that focuses on scales only will cover this, but I somewhat expected this one to encompass it all. This shouldn't dissuade anyone new or experienced from purchasing there is some great learning material to study the guitar whether alone or with an instructor.Plus side, the book is written with fair sized fonts for legibility while playing, and the book is somewhat easy to bend flat once you work at it. These both are common issues with other guitar and other instrument learning books.

For any level, a truly excellent resource..
I'll start off by stating, I've been playing guitar a bit over eight years. I received this book with little to no expectations, to be honest. It was intended to be a quick reference for scales during my personal practices, however, after reading through a couple sections, this book has proven to be much, MUCH, more than that. Bear in mind, this is coming from a metal/shred guitarist and composer. Anything you could ever want and/or need to know about guitar, is concisely and completely written within this awesome resource. To further sweeten the deal, the author, Damon (fellow virtuoso guitarist and shredder), has released a TON of great instructional videos to further refine the concepts and techniques shared within this book. If you are a beginner in need of the best training I've found thus far, look no further. What makes this book an excellent resource is just how thorough it really is. Any scale or arpeggio you truly could ever need to play great music is here, finally. The format of the book is designed in such a way that as you progress through the lessons, the difficulty increases; Thus, your SKILL increases, regardless of your level of experience. Knowledge is key here, and the more you know, the more you can actually grow, and this here is a book of knowledge. This is a resource that every guitarist should have in his/her possession, and I couldn't be happier to have it in mine.So what're you waiting for? If you want the best instruction, you've found it.

great handbook
I'm just starting to play guitar not long ago. My friend recommend me this book. So far I like it a lot. This book has what beginners need to start playing. Each lesson is easy and clear enough to understand. I had a hard time remember different fretboard positions of scales and always had to look it up on the internet whenever I need. Now they are all organized in one book, I can clip a few pages to find what I need. It is a useful and detailed book.

best book to start with
This handbook is great for beginners, it has everything a beginner need to start learning guitar. This is a very practical handbook, it has various scales, chords and arpeggios. Unlike many books that start with music theories and learning note by note, this book is very easy to pick up. The instruction is clear and concise to understand. Along with the youtube tutorials(/user/GuitarScalesHandbook), beginners will pick up even faster.I highly recommend this book as I did to my friends.
