Seriously Juicy Tidbits about places you thought you knew
I have this annoying friend who, like me, is a lifelong New Jerseyan. He also thinks he's an expert on Aleister Crowley, but he DID NOT KNOW about the Crowley tree, which is right here in NJ. Ha! This book has a lot of juicy tidbits with which to make your friends and family scratch their heads. It's not really a cover to cover read, but there's plenty here to keep you interested even if you don't go on the road with it. I took one star off because I don't like the table of contents; I would have preferred the specific sites to be listed instead of just the subject headings. The key word here is "Magical," because, though there's plenty of the spooky and bizarre, this book is more respectful than, say Weird New Jersey. And though New Agers will be delighted to learn they can have their crystals identified at the Morris Museum, this book is for "normal" people too - - note that there is no "k" in Magical. (If you've already identified your crystals, try a pilgrimage to the early 18th century ruin, the "Cave of Kelpius," the well spring of mysticism in America (see p.126))

Start plotting your road trip now
Because I live in Pennsylvania, I took a particular interest in this book. Because I am pagan, I was excited to see what Natalie Zaman had up her sleeve. And she certainly did not disappoint. This is as indispensable a guide as anything Michelin, Fodor or Frommer ever wrote. There are things in this book mere miles from where I live that I had no idea existed. It is written with humor, excitement and respect. Thank you, Natalie Zaman, for a perfect guide to the magic in the Northeast! I wonder where she's going next ...

This is a fantastic travel book with some awesome out of the way places. For someone interested in spiritual locations or just cool stuff this is great. I have been looking for some close to home places here in NJ and there is an entire section dedicated to that. Not a coffee table book, but a “take on the road” kind.

Wonderful tour guide!
Natalie doesn't disappoint with this guide to places both well known and obscure in this guide - it's almost as good as taking a road trip along with her! Can't wait to read the rest of the series and explore even further from home.
