A great story snuck into the Bible’s timeline
I love this book because it shows us how much really did happen in the Bible even if some people were not mentioned. It’s a good story for all people, especially Christians. I was really happy to find out this was based off of the Bible. All in all, great book.

Very good historical fiction
I found this book while looking for historical fiction for an ancient history unit. This worked perfectly, as it is set in Ancient Damascus in the time of King Ahab & Queen Jezebel of Israel/Samaria. Bible students will remember the incident of General Naaman of Syria who contacted the prophet Elisha for healing. This story is told through the eyes of Naaman's slave girl who told him of Elisha's miraculous deeds. The girl's life, capture, and captivity are all fiction, of course, but very well done in an intriguing and believable way, increasing the story's interest. The book is an easy read (5th grade & up) and is very engaging, plus gives the reader a good feel for the culture and beliefs of the day. Enjoyable kids' books for this time period are rare so this was a good find!

Adara
I LOVED THIS BOOK. I had to read it for school, but I still LOVED it. It is one of my FAVORITE book that I have had to read this school year. I have also read The Well of Sacrifice, Hittite Worrior, and the high schoolers are going to read God King

Sheds light on the biblical story
Adara, set within the biblical context of the period of the Kings, can really shed light on the time period. Like much historical fiction it helps to add personal detail to a short portion of scripture. It brings issues to life for a younger reader. Spolier alert: It isn't overwhelmingly obvious at first that Adara turns out the be the same "Hebrew slave girl" who sends Naaman to inquire of the prophet, which makes a nice Aha! moment. The book is a quick read. I think it might be too easy for a the 9-12 age bracket if the student is a reader, It offers a great opportunity to discuss why it is dangerous to be impulsive and disobedient, but also how God redeems even those poor decisions for His glory.

I would recommend this for a slightly older reader
I bought this for my 9 year old 4th grader. Some of the language and vocabulary were difficult for her to understand. I would recommend this for a slightly older reader. Good story!
