The magnets are not able to hold the fabric in place. Perhaps another 4 pieces of magnets might help.

The idea is great - lay down your item to be embroidered on top of the hoop and use magnets to hold it on for the embroidery machine to sew design. The problem comes in there are only 4 magnets. The magnets are heavy duty, but with only 4, if you are using a 5x7 hoop, the hoop is too large to only have 4 magnets. This item should not be sold with less than 6 magnets - maybe even needs 7-8 magnets. I messed up two projects because the magnets were not enough to hold the fabric down for embroidering.

The enclosed instructions describe and show a picture of the hoop with 4 raised lines to use for placement. The 5 x 7 hoop in the box has no such placement aids. The directions describe and show a template grid marked in both inches and CM. The enclosed template grid is only marked in inches. It also states that there are 4 magnets and it came with 6. I will have to see if I can use this and overcome the lack of the placement bumps. If I cannot, I will be returning this item. I ordered a 4 x 4 magnet hoop at the same time which appears to have different manufacturer, and that hoop has the placement bumps.

Initially it worked wonderful I made several mug rugs with it. Then I started working on peeker towels. Every time the needle got close to the magnet it would pull the magnet off the hoop and onto the needle. Also if you are doing applique, be careful when you take the hoop off the machine. Again, if it gets close to the needle the magnets will fly off. Also, if your scissors get too close it pulls the magnet right off. I have lost several projects due to this because I cannot reposition what I was working on. My set did come with 6 magnets, however, I used additional SewTites as those magnets were 100 times stronger and felt more secure. Also the SewTites are lower and will not be pulled off by your needle or scissors.

Fantastic magnetic hoop! Super easy to use! The rim is flocked, keeping the stabilizer tight. I used it to embroider on a triangular cotton woven and it was perfect. Just put the magnets where the fabric touched the hoop. No pulling or stretching of the fabric/stabilizer. Mine came with 6 magnets. My new favorite hoop! I wish it came in more and larger sizes!!
