Both Lily Boulanger and Frederic Mompou lived in Paris in the early 20th c. and although they never met, pianist Moisès Fernández Vía created a dialog between them by commissioning a piece by David Chaillou that would create "common ground" between the two. "[For] Les mains nues I imagined my music as an autonomous space within that great imaginary house where Boulanger and Mompou would reside for a while. I think Moisès saw in my music a common ground between [them] I chose to use the resonance of the piano to allow a melodic reality-almost improvised and free-to be able to speak." (David Chaillou)
