The idea is good, the gadget itself is not workable.
I'm very experienced with knives but since I developed arthritis in my hands and tremors, many of the tasks are difficult - particularly holding vegetables, even with a cut-proof glove. I had big hopes for this gadget. The center slot for slicing vegetable lengthwise works just fine and the peeler attachment is very good. However, the regular slicing is awkward, the "handle" where one grasps the thing is awkward to hold for someone like me - the "pinching" effort is what I have problems with because of arthritis and weakness in my thumb. AND I could not keep it from sliding off vegetables and fruit - it needs prongs on the bottom, like the meat attachment. Soft tomatoes get slightly mashed. I tried it on a small celeriac (celery root) and it kept slipping off, same with an apple. The experience with an eggplant was even worse. I tried to cut the stem end off and it slipped backwards and off the counter onto the floor. The slots to remove food from the blade are useless - as far as I am concerned - I use a chef's knife that is thick at the edge opposite the cutting edge and won't fit.The other thing is that with all of the gadget transparent - except the meat holder, also useless - it is difficult to see the various components. There should be a contrast at the edges of the various pieces where they fit together. It's a good idea but needs some tweaking. Perhaps later versions will address some of these. A round handle that is easier to grasp WITH some kind of texture - so it is easier to grip with wet hands.

The Knife Glider Safely Cuts Fruits and Vegetables; It Has Become an Invaluable Kitchen Tool!
Initially, I was very skeptical about the Knife Glider. I didn’t think I would ever use it on a regular basis. However, over the past two months, it has become a vital member of my army of kitchen tools. I am very clumsy and accident prone. I get into accidents when I get into a hurry. The Knife Glider causes me to slow down and be careful and cautious. It works great for cutting up fruits with slippery hulls, such as oranges, lemons, and limes. I leave the meat attachment on the knife glider because it has the sharp prongs that dig into the citrus fruit, holding it tightly while I safely cut it. My fingers stay behind the thick plastic shield. I also use the Knife Glider for cutting and dicing long vegetables such as cucumbers, green zucchinis, and yellow squashes. I have used the metal three-prong skewer for holding the cucumbers while I peel them. It’s a little awkward and one must be careful when inserting the skewer. (It could be used as a weapon.) The Knife Glider is easy to clean but I would be careful while washing the meat attachment. Don’t get into a hurry and break off one of the sharp, plastic “forks” that dig into the meat or fruit or whatever you are securing while cutting. The Knife Glider has numerous sharp edges that could cut you if you don’t handle them properly while washing them. I like how the glider shield, the peeling attachment, and the meat attachment can all be connected together for easy storage. Be careful, because the peeling attachment slides out easily. My major complaint is that there aren’t any printed instructions for operating and cleaning this Knife Glider. I kept the company’s packing box itself because it offers some valuable information. (I unfolded the box and forced it flat.) The video posted on Amazon’s website was informative but it was too short and the host demonstrated its use too quickly. I had to re-watch it several times. Overall, the Knife Glider works and will prevent cuts if used properly. It has slowly assimilated itself into my kitchen and has become a vital asset when safely preparing food. (Everyone in my household is on a diet; we are trying to eat more fruits and vegetables.) I insist that my girlfriend, Tammy, use it because she cuts herself more often than I do. Sometimes, her hands shake and tremble as though she has palsy. I highly recommend the Knife Glider for those with physical disabilities and for those, like myself, who are simply accident prone.

Not worth the trouble
This kitchen tool was not for me. First, I agree with many other users that just getting it in shape to use (sliding off the meat attachment) is a feat in itself. Once I was able to wiggle and slide it off, I tried it to cut a few items, such as a strawberry and apple, and it was much more trouble than what it is worth. It seems fumbly and clumsy, and just easier not to bother with it. It does seem the attachment for the peeler may be worthwhile, and for this I will keep this item buried in a drawer, if I do remember this tool when I have a need to peel something. However, I wouldn't really recommend this product just for this. This product does not really fill any unfulfilled need, and really does not seem worth the trouble to use it. It is dishwasher-safe and lays flat for storage, so at least it isn't too difficult to maintain.

It Really Does Stop Knife Cuts
The Proctor Shield does a great job in stopping knife cuts. It is easy to use. It is just a matter of doing things differently. You actually have to think about how to use the Proctor Shield, but that only takes a few seconds. I am sure that over time it will be second nature.I only had one problem with the Proctor Shield. When I was using it for the first time, I was taking the meat attachment off of the front of the shield. The meat attachment was stuck and wouldn’t come off. I really had to force it downward to get it to come off. It eventually did with enough force, but one of the pointed prongs punctured the inside of my thumb. So, be careful! After all, Knife Glider Kitchen Home Hand Finger Guard Protector Shield Chopping Cutting Slicing Peeling Multi Food Cooking Preparation Tool it was just doing it's job. It did find the meat.
