Medical Spanish Pocketcard Set (English and Spanish Edition)

Sturdiness a problem
These are indeed small, and may be an issue for some to readโฆ but the problem is the tiny plastic tab that holds them together, so they can flip over. It does not do a good job. They would be much more useful if the tab was a stainless small ring.

Not written for bilingual professionals
I ordered this set as an aide to learning Spanish medical terms. Since I am already fluent in English/Spanish I really just needed the more specific Spanish terminology for such terms as CT scan, coagulation, arthroscopy, etc. Since I was already placing an order for a Spanish Medical Dictionary, I tossed this one in with the order just in case. For someone who is not already familiar with Spanish, this is obviously a great tool. It's neatly divided into categories such as Common Commands, Days of the Week, Numbers and Time, Common Questions, etc. It also includes typical interview questions such as "hello, I'm Dr ---" "How long have you been sick?" etc. Categories are also included for the interview, medical history, the physical exam, diagnosis & medication, tests, and nursing instruction.Something to keep in mind is that these cards are basically a one-sided interview/conversation. It's a great tool for helping you ask the correct question, but if you are unable to correctly interpret the patient's answer, it may not be of much use. With a little knowledge of Spanish pronunciation, these cards are the perfect aide to the healthcare professional. (Note that no pronunciation guide is included and you must have a basic understanding of Spanish pronunciation and some abbreviations as well.)In my case, the only actual part that was of any real use to me was the relatively small column of medical terms and the tests. Nevertheless, I would recommend it to other bilinguals in the case that you need to learn a few basic medical terms on the go since it does fit neatly in a shirt pocket.

Love it
I love this. I have a bit of basic conversational spanish, but I donโt have enough to get through rooming a patient quickly and accurately. This is a life saver. It fits right in the leg pocket of my scrubs and I can have it when I need it without it being in the way in the meantime. I love that this is in the formal Usted. However, Some of the phrasing is a little clunky, phrasing things in a way that would never actually be said. You might need a basic understanding of spanish to be able to utilize this product fully in that you need to understand how to conjugate verbs properly and pronounce things right. I let a coworker go over it and she couldnโt get through a lot of it because she has no spanish background. It was also looked over by a fluent spanish speaker and, (with the exception of the occasional awkward phrasing,) She was impressed. I definitely recommend this as a supplemental guide for any medical professional who works with a lot of spanish speaking patients.

Small but decent.
I ordered this for a friend who is a nurse, hoping that she'd be able to carry it around in her pocket. I think it'll work just fine. It is by no means a comprehensive list, yet it gives the basics, enough to get you by in an emergency situation where there is no interpreter around. The cards are held together by a plastic gromet, and are made of plastic, so you can easily wipe them clean. It also has a blank page where you can jot a few notes down. It is small, thin, and can easily fit in the pocket of your scrubs or your shirt, although it would probably stick out a bit.

Cards are well made, however
3 complaints:1) Print is way too small to be useful in a medical setting with a patient2) Spanish is spelled, but without phonetic pronunciation so not helpful unless you know Spanish3) The seller's label is glued directly onto the card and difficult to get off making part of the card not useful out of the box.I will keep and find a way to use because there is nothing else really out there, however this product could be a whole lot better with a tag attached rather than glued on.

Overall good tool
I bought this card when i came to the US to start my residency, after I found out that not every patient speaks English. Now, after 20 months, I don't need to carry it with me anymore, since in a few months almost all words and phrases have become part of my routine. The most important benefit though, is that the communication with the Spannish speaking population has markedly improved and i feel more comfortable taking history from them. This card has been a good tool and overall is highly reecommended, but don't expect it to be like having a translator or being able to understand everything in Spannish

Fantastic for medical spanish
I volunteer at a hispanic majority clinic. This helped me ask the write questions and follow the answers. Wish it was a larger print.

Handy for quick reference of medical words in Spanish
I took this to Nicaragua on a medical mission trip. It came in handy for quick references of what the Spanish speaking patients were saying. This is a set of 4 cards that are attached together at the corner. There is also a nice diagram of a human body with organs that you may use as a visual aid for patients. Fits in your pocket/white coat.
