Product Description Awaken your mind with this third volume of the MindCandy series which brings real-time computer animated music videos to your TV. We ve taken these poetic programs of the computer world to the next level by presenting forty of the best PC Windows productions created over the past eight years on both Blu-ray (HD) and DVD. MindCandy Volume 3 is a best-of-the-best look at what imaginative amateur programmers, musicians, and graphic artists can do with an off-the-shelf personal computer. The demos produced are often shown at parties throughout Europe, and are created to push the PC to its limits while impressing the audience. This third and final installment of the trilogy, MindCandy Volume 3, will push the limits of your Blu-ray player and High Definition television with its spectacular audio-visual effects. Contents: Blu-ray and DVD. Main Feature is approx. 210 minutes. Widescreen with Dolby Digital 2.0. Review Mindcandy Volume 3 proves quite admirably that there's no dearth of talent in private homes around the world, guys (for the most part, anyway) who just like fooling around with their computers and seeing what they can create with them. While there's obviously no real rhyme or reason in terms of a through line on this compilation, there's a lot of staggeringly beautiful imagery and some very nicely done music as well. It would have been nice to have had an actual credits page, instead of the internet "gamertags" these guys tend to use, so that any further career developments could be more closely followed. Some may find the Supplements here overly technical, but they're fascinating a lot of the time. The only real downside to this Blu-ray is the lack of lossless audio. As ambient television and as examples of what the personal computer can accomplish, this is some of the most interesting stuff to come down the pike in a long time. Recommended. --From: blu-ray.comThe demo scene has long been a testing (and proving) ground for new technologies and techniques, and MindCandy has been one of the best anthologies of these around. - Brandon Sheffield --Game Developer Magazine (Jan 2012)This handy combo pack of MindCandy boasts well over ten hours of content on the Blu-Ray alone, and most of it's presented in 720p. Don't worry, though: due to the nature of this content and it's authoring, everything still looks fantastic from start to finish, which makes MindCandy, Volume 3 a unique demo disc for home theater enthusiasts. --DVDTalk P.when('A').execute(function(A) { A.on('a:expander:toggle_description:toggle:collapse', function(data) { window.scroll(0, data.expander.$expander[0].offsetTop-100); }); }); About the Director Jim Leonard handled all of the video editing for the Mindcandy series. Great demos, iffy compression
Enjoyed it greatly, and 60fps is something I had never seen on a BluRay and it definitely helps showing off the demos, but it doesn't look like the compression process was authored very much. I understand that demos with patterns and fast moving objects, etc, are hard to get right at all with video compression, but some are blocky as hell. Taking off a star for that. Otherwise, totally worth it if you're into the demoscene.

Spectacular examples of what high-end consumer hardware can do nowadays
Stunning sequences, some of them approaching studio CGI quality with a vastly smaller hardware budget than the major studios have. In a few more years, amateurs may represent a serious disruptive threat to Hollywood, since mass-market graphics hardware just keeps getting better.

but still a good pies of demo scene culture in here
There always seems to be some "must to have" demos from these compilations, but still a good pies of demo scene culture in here!
