OTC4796 Steering Neck Bearing Race Remover

will not work on my Harley soft tail ..
The lip is way to thick to get beneath the races . It would need to ground off to 25% of what it is now, and I'm afraid it will be to weak at that thickness.. It's going back .. Sadly the proper one is 3 times the price .. My bike is a 1991 Harley FXSTS Springer ..

Not great, but it worked
Used it to remove Harley steering neck bearings. Harley doesn’t leave much to get a bite on with any tool but this tool in particular did not grip well at all. Once tightened it would just pop out with a couple hits. After making a slight gap with a chisel it managed to get a grip on the bearing but it could be improved with more of an angle on the tooth of the tool so I will be grinding it and modifying it for the next time. In the end I must say, it did work for a job I never could have done without it, but it was still a big pain in the @$$! Also it might work better on other bikes but it’s not very Harley friendly, v-rod in particular.

Oh , Yess.....
Used on Triumph Thruxton , new Triumph classic series. The bearing races are almost flush with neck stem. Triumph forum regales with horrors stories of removing the stock races for replacement. Hours/ days of fiddling, tears and cutting with dremmels etc. . Being low talent mechanic I wanted to avoid this.Purchased this item and once I got to this removal step it was painless. Just position at right point , tighten . Position a piece of wood to allow hitting with a hammer and both were out in 10 minutes first try. I had more trouble putting the new bearing races in the steering stem.Another lesson in having the right tool for the job.
