This fixture has nice features but many problems!
This is a very nice light for a shed. There are three settings- On (on all the time), auto (dusk to dawn), and Off. The remote control is supposed to turn it on and off and click through two light level settings. I thought at first my remote didn't work because the directions said the "On" position means the light is on all the time. I thought then that it should turn the light on from the "Off" position but it didn't. The directions don't say how the remote is used to turn the light on and off. I determined that the light worked in the "ON" position and in the Auto position (dusk to dawn). Everything seemed to be in order except the remote. I phoned Nature Power to get a replacement. The gal was very nice and agreed that the remote appeared to be defective and has shipped a replacement remote. But then I realized I hadn't actually tried using the remote in the "On" position. It does work as a switch in that position and to toggle through two brightness settings. So it looks like I'll end up with two remotes. I've just written to see if I can pay for the second one since the original remote actually did work. Other people have reported problems with the remote so I wonder if they had the same difficulty. The directions really leave something to be desired. The video demo of the light on the website shows the remote turning the light on and off but also doesn't give details. Now I am completely satisfied though I strongly suggested to the company that they improve the directions. The light is bright enough for the shed and the company has good customer service- you can't go wrong. The cord connecting the panel outside to the light inside is ample- 10-12 feet- I'm not sure the product info tells that but that could be important to you, depending on your shed and outdoor panel placement.Update on 10/20/13. Shortly after resolving the remote control issue and writing the review above, the light quit working! I had to check the batteries as the probable cause. If you need to change the batteries, be sure to remove the fixture from the ceiling first. I didn't on my first attempt and some of the tiny (I should say miniature) little screws fell and were lost until I gave up and took it down from the ceiling. But I had to buy more screws to put it back together. Another tiny screw holds a bar over the battery. An extremely thin strip of plastic that holds the battery case to the fixture broke. I checked the batteries on my battery charger and found two of the three batteries to be dead after one day of use. So I replaced them with freshly charged 1.5 volt rechargeable batteries but it still wouldn't work. Ricardo at Nature Power said to try regular alkaline batteries and it worked with them. He said there was no reason it shouldn't work with the rechargeables, so I tried again and this time they did- possibly they hadn't been seated properly the first time. However, now it only worked in the "ON" position. Neither the auto feature or remote control would work. Opened it up again and found a yellow wire disconnected. All that opening and closing up the fixture was too much for the fragile wiring. I told Ricardo that I was willing to try to solder it back down if he could instruct me or send a diagram but he would not. And at this time he said that Nature Power would not replace the fixture, that the fragile wiring was not a warranty issue. By this time, it was past the time period for returns to Amazon. I phoned Amazon anyway to ask what to do when the manufacturer would not honor the warranty and they agreed to replace it. Then Ricardo got back in touch to say that they decided to take a return after all, but the Amazon return was already in the works. What a time I've had! Today I will send the broken lamp back to Amazon and Amazon is shipping another.I really do like this hanging shed lamp. It is attractive and I like the remote control feature. I have the remote hanging on a nail just inside the door- very convenient. I have faith that I have worked through all the problems and it will be smooth sailing from now on.I sent a list of suggestions to Nature Power to improve this product:1) The directions that came with the fixture are really terrible. They don't even say that the switch should be in the "ON" position in order for the remote control to work. That wasn't intuitive to me. Since I had to guess, I guessed the remote would turn the light ON from the OFF position. But that was wrong. There was a 50-50 chance of being right, but the customer shouldn't have to guess how the fixture is supposed to operate.2) The directions incorrectly say that the switch positions are Off, One and Two. Not so! The switch positions are Off, Auto, and On.3) The directions should say that it is necessary to remove the fixture from the ceiling because the tiny screws fall out and are lost if you don't (I had to go to the hardware store and buy new screws). Better yet would be to use bigger screws that are easier to handle and find if they drop.4) The plastic bar over the batteries is annoying- it would be better if it snapped in place rather than screwed down with another tiny screw.5) There was a thin, very flimsy plastic strip that is supposed to retain the battery compartment and circuit board to the fixture but that broke the first time I opened the case- it needs to be made stronger.6) The wiring is exposed and vulnerable and not robust and subject to damage when changing the batteries. It needs to be covered and protected. With these improvements, this will be a real winner. A friend suggested that there is something that can be sprayed over wiring to protect it. I am visiting an electronics shop today and will ask about that for the new unit that should be coming soon.

I love the light but the remote should have an on/off switch
I originally purchased this product because the description said it would work in a gazebo. Technically, I suppose that can be said. However, when you go to install it, you'll quickly realize that there's no way to attractively "hang" the base of the light from the hook in the middle of the gazebo. In other words, the base doesn't sit flat as it's pictured here. You have to hook one side of it so the base hangs to the side very awkwardly. As for the light its self, it works really well. It has two settings, high and low, which are controlled by the remote control that comes with it. Why they didn't include an on/off option on the remote control as well is beyond me. You literally have to get on a chair in the middle of the gazebo and reach up on top of the light to manually flip the switch off. We ended up just leaving it off because it's a pain to have to disable it after every use...and if/when we wouldn't disable it, it would be really bright at night out there and would attract mosquitoes and other bugs.

Lamp is bright, quality is so so..
Light didn't work with remote at unboxing, but after fiddling with the remote and battery a bit, it started to work.. Too bad you can't get both light brightness with lamp alone if remote fails. Quality is a bit cheap and I'm not too sure how long the solar panel support bracket will stand up to wind and sun UV rays over time. Also, wish they made the bulb protection lens on the lamp a bit better optically clear. The light it cast is distorted and loses true brightness from irregular marks in the lens. Without the lens you can notice a difference in brightness. Guess only time will tell how long it last both working and battery charging cycles.. They recommend battery replacement once a year with new rechargeables, and to get at them means dismantling the whole lamp. Seems a bit short in my opinion. Light is bright when used. The brighter setting is actually good enough to read with also. So, for that, I'm satisfied.. 3 stars just for the quality so far. I'll upgrade if it lasts over a year and a half.. Lol.

Great for a patio
The light itself is made of plastic, so if you are going to hold it up over your head with one hand, you will consider it cheap. It is also fairly small as is the chain and the ceiling attachment. But that is were the down-side ends. The light cover is glass which gives it a much richer look when hanging. The solar panel is very large so it really collects for when you need it; it is long lasting. There is plenty of cord to attach the two for most applications; I used mine on the patio to hang over an outdoor table - I put the solar panel on the roof. The remote control is a great bonus. It does not have a long range, so you will want to place it fairly close, but it works great with two levels: soft light and brighter.Don't try to compare the light with an incandescent that is wired in, you can't. But for anyone that has a place, say on a patio like me, it is a great addition. It is probably not bright enough to read at the table, but it is bright enough to play most games, have a glass of wine, or just talk. There is good spread so it lights up my entire round table. Looking up doesn't blind you and walking up to is does not because they are recessed LEDs that you cannot see from that direction. It is white light and not warm light so it gives the appearance of brighter lighting. It is not so bright that it causes any other solar lights in the area to go off. For my application, it is just perfect and unlike anything else I have been able to attach without an electrician.

Excelente funcionamiento
Excelente, me gustaron mucho. Lo unico es que no me gusta mucho la luz fría esperaba luz mas cálida. Muy fácil la instalación en mi caso. Las puse en la terraza.

Great Light
It is a great light that we are putting in an outside gazebo. It looks really great though it is not hanging down too far due to height. It will be great to sit out in the gazebo at night with a light to see what we are doing. A great investment.

It’s “ok”
Motion detection is “ok “ it has two settings full and brighter .. I should mention that the bright setting is a little offensive ( blue /white LED light ) this is really my only issue with this product .. i feel the tone of the light could have been a little “softer “Solar charging works decently , light is a lot smaller then we thought it would be .

Remote is useless
Love this light, perfect amount of light at night in our little gazebo. The only issue is the remote might as well just throw it out it doesn’t work at all so you either have to wait for the disk auto on or remove the globe and turn it on and off when you want to use it
