Well made
Very sturdy and well made. So easy to pop up weeds. CAUTION It is very sharp. Did slice my thumb- I really should not be allowed sharp things LOL

This makes weeding actually enjoyable!
After the snow melted and rain finally stopped, I found my flower bed and vegetable garden full of thistles and dandelions that have grown to significant sizes. I was looking for an organic way to remove them & luckily came to learn about a tool called Hori Hori Knife. After doing a quick research on the internet, I've learned Nisaku is a producer of the best quality Hori Hori Knife. I also liked how this particular model has a rubber handle for increased durability when others have wooden handles. I decided to give this product a try & it far exceeded my expectations! This tool makes removing thistles and dandelions really easy. I just have to insert it into the soil next to the plant I wish to remove to loosen the root & simply pull it out of the ground. If the root is too deep, I can cut it easily with the serrated side of the tool. Thanks to its shape, the Hori Hori would go into the ground with minimum effort. If I succeed at loosening up soil around a deep root, I was able to pull out the plant with the entire root being intact. This gave me a great sense of accomplishment and satisfaction :) I would recommend this tool to anyone who is looking for an effective and non-toxic way to get rid of deep rooted weeds.

Great high quality product
This is really a great high quality product. I've been using it for about a year now the steel is of high quality as I have dug through so much clay soil with this and the knife edge is still sharp and the blade overall shows little wear. The handle is very comfortable to use. I would buy this again.

This is my favorite gardening/weeding tool!
I have two of these. I temporarily misplaced my first one (two years old and still in great shape), and ordered a 2nd one immediately upon believing my first one lost forever. I now have one permanently in my gardening apron (with large pockets) and another in my back yard (mailbox used just for gardening storage). I cannot begin to express how much easier my weeding chores have become thanks to this tool! Instead of pulling and leaving far too much of the root structure in the ground, risking regrowth, I plunge this tool into the ground around the weed before pulling. When faced with dozens of bags of soil or mulch, this tool makes quick work of slicing them open. No need for an extra tool. This one does the work of many! I cannot recommend more highly.

i love this tool. i wear it on my belt all the time since i am in the yard all day. it's very sharp so be careful using it. i find it difficult to cut branches that are half inch or more. it's great for weeding and cutting stringers on plants,

The knife is great the sheath is crap
Note, this review will be primarily focused on the knife itself with the sheath excluded. Please see the bottom of the review for notes on the sheath.First of all, the knife itself seems very well-built. The handle is extremely ergonomic and ,despite it being plastic, feels sturdy. Both edges of the blade, serrated and non-serrated are extremely Sharp. I have only been using it for a couple of days now but I have not had any trouble cutting through just about everything. the blade is so shiny that it makes me feel bad for getting it dirty but it's extremely easy to clean because of the mirrored finish and I suspect that as long as I take care of it this blade will last me forever. On the other hand, the sheath is absolute and utter crap. Right out of the box the belt loop fell off of the sheath. I hadn't even attached to my belt yet! After I jury-rigged it with a bigger nut and washer, I was able to use the sheath for about 30 minutes before the it split open at the sides. Under normal circumstances, I would have returned the knife and everything and found a better overall package. However, this seems to be impossible with hori-hori knives as every single one that I found either came with the same plastic sheath, a cruddy split leather sheath, or no sheath that all.As I expect this knife will last me years if not decades I decided to make my own sheath. If you are not as handy, good quality leather sheaths can be found for 20 to $30. Wooden ones seem to range in the 50 to $80 area. All of my star ratings are based on the knife itself with the sheath excluded. I highly recommend the blade as long as you go into it understanding that you'll probably have to buy a new sheath within the first few weeks best case scenario.

Great for sego palm pups
I bought this mainly to take off the sego palm pups that grow out the sides. Previously I’d be using a screwdriver pop them out which was a pain in the butt. With this knife I can cut them out with ease. For that I give this a 5 star. I tried using this to hack some little branches and it bent the blade a bit. I’d definitely get this over the one with the wooden handle. The grip on the wooden handle one is much less functional as it doesn’t fit the hand well. This one is much more comfortable. I bought them both to see how they felt in hand. I’d say this would be a great gift for people with sego palms and as well as a good value for the money.

Surprisingly useful
Gave this to my girlfriend as a present at the suggestion of a friend, who has a similar one from a different company. She was unsure about it at first, since she has several nice trowels. However, after just a couple uses she has come to love it. It works great for digging small holes with completely vertical sides and for cutting through roots that are in the way of those holes. All in all, this was a very successful gift.
