Flange mounted ball transfers offer a low profile, multi-directional solution to various material handling, positioning, and/or conveyance applications. All units, except the stainless steel model, come complete with a felt seal. The stainless steel unit is made from 420 stainless steel and has a unique multi-hole filtration system designed to purge out contamination and is provided with no oil/no seal, which allows the unit to operate in harsh conditions by efficiently filtering out debris through the base. Great find, work well
I ordered these as a 'hope it works'. I was pleasantly surprised that they work exceptionally well as casters. The machining is reasonably high quality and they spin freely with just a gentle push. BE ADVISED - to mount them flush, you'll need to machine a recessed area to accept the dome shape back. I used a fostner bit to affix them to some 3/4" plywood - worked out very well. I plan to order more for an ottoman in my children's playroom - better than it dragging across the floor. As another review mentioned, they are not quiet - but the noise is not bothersome (its not a screech - just a roller bearing noise).

Good space saver for the traditional caster
The SKF series of casters, or as they call it - a ball transfer device. I made a movable platform out of Oak for my computer which is very heavy (HP Blackbird) and the case has no wheels, so moving it was hard. I routed the shape of the case bottom for stability. Regular wheels or casters would have made the whole thing too tall. These were are a perfect alternative when you want rollers or wheels on something but either space (height) or the visibility of normal rollers is astatically not what you want. Installation is very easy. I try and use the excuse of a new wood project to but a new tool, so I got a 2 & 7/8" Forstner bit to recess the large dia. Base plate. (not really necessary). You will need (depending on size) a large Forstner bit for the center ball recess, in this case it was 1 & ½". If you don't have the proper size there are other ways to cut the recess but I'll leave that to you. BACK to the product: As I said it can be installed easily, its low profile, caries a lot of weight, many options on product size (not sure how many Amazon carries, so check out the manufactures site), works well on carpet (even with a fairly long cut matt like mine), appears well constructed and heavy duty. The only reason I rated it a 4 vs. 5 (admittedly a bit cheesy) is you can hear the internal ball bearings `chattering' when you slid it around but it's not bad. If you need a very low profile caster and have the room for the large dia. This is a great solution.
