A gorgeous book, both a good read and a good reference...
As the other reviewers have noted, this is a beautiful book, packed with helpful information that's presented in a relaxed, congenial style. It's also a focused but thorough reference for sorting through varieties of white, green, matcha, oolong, black, and pu-erh tea. The short descriptions on pp.152-161 provide flavor profiles and brewing tips for many varietals. I've long been mystified by all the different types of green tea, and this is the clearest information I've found. I also appreciated the hot and cold brewing instructions, which are clearly written with loving care. The recipes are great too—the book has three versions of chai to make with your own spices, and some inspired breakfast recipes. In addition, I can vouch for the matcha pesto—it's innovative and yummy! Both epicureans and picky eaters could love it.Overall, there's something for everyone--a well-rounded gem.

Gimmicky title does a disservice to the content
The blog-for-clicks style title certainly captures attention, but belies the treasure trove of tea knowledge in the pages, backed up by a dense list of sources. This book is an excellently written and easily read short course in the properties, effects, and uses of tea of all kinds, with lovely recipes and tantalizing detailed descriptions of all the different iterations of Camellia sinensis. While the focus is, obviously, on cancer prevention, myriad health benefits are covered - and in a way that makes the daily ritual of tea seem attractive and doable. As for the language some other reviewers complain about, I was confused because I couldn’t remember anything terrible. I flipped back through and, unless I missed something, I found a “sucks”, a “sneaky b*stard” (accurate description of cancer, I believe), a lighthearted “steep your own d*mn tea”, and a “bad*ss”. Oh, and I guess a chapter titled “give cancer the finger”, if you consider that bad language. Unless your ten year old enjoys some light reading about polyphenols (good for them!), it’s not anything a normally socialized adult would really notice.

I have very much enjoyed reading this book. Lots of different kinds of teas mentioned.

A much needed book! Well written. Fun read. Powerful message.
A much needed book! It does a great job balancing the details of the science and biology about *how* tea works in your body, without going over my head, all while keeping my interest piqued about *why* we should care about this one plant. It got me to change my own daily routine, simply incorporating matcha into my morning green smoothie so I can get 2 tea servings in by 10am. It also got me to reflect on the other important aspects of my own life that are factors of health - like good friends and exercise. I was struck by the fact that cancer is largely a product of environmental factors that we have control over, rather than a black box mystery or a predetermined genetic sentence. This quote empowered me to improve my own health in the ways I have control over: "I’ve come to agree with the science that claims that cancer is a largely preventable disease and that the function of the immune system and cancer are in inextricably linked." Well written. Fun read. Powerful message.

Don't miss this book about fighting cancer
While fighting cancer Maria Uspenski became aware of the ability of tea to combat cancer. Her investigation led to this extraordinarily insightful book. Although the book covers a serious topic its style is light and lively - it's fun to read. This is a very human book, as if a good friend had taken your hand to encourage you down a path towards better health. It's also an encyclopedia of tea, analyzing the effects in fighting cancer of 21 types of tea and delving into their tastes and manufacturing processes. Finally, it's an extremely attractive book with artful textual layout on variously colored pages, many beautiful colored photos, and an extra bonus of tempting and surprisingly varied recipes using tea. Very few books treat their subjects as effectively, entertainingly and thoroughly as this one does.

I love this book already
I haven't read all the book yet. My daughter has brain cancer and just had her 2nd surgery. She loves tea. So I'm going to share the book with her. From what I have seen in it, it looks amazing. The writer has a great sense of humor. So much info and very interesting.

Accessible, educational guide to better living through the joy and health benefits of tea.
The real world case for this insightful book is summed up best in this quote from Chapter 1: "One well-referenced study from The University of Texas M.D. Anderson Cancer Center points out that since only 5–10 percent of all cancer cases can be attributed to genetic predisposition that the remaining 90–95 percent have their roots in lifestyle and environment. That’s downright mind-blowing, isn’t it? The onset of the cancer monster, which is responsible for one in every four deaths in the U.S., can be prevented. Why isn't everyone standing in line for that?"Starting with that powerful and sobering premise, Maria takes the reader on a journey through the world of tea; from science to tradition, with stops along the way to understand where the benefits come from and how best to enjoy this incredible beverage. The writing is personal, accessible and easily digestible, just like her tea.Cancer Hates Tea is a great primer for anyone seeking to better understand their own physiology and take better control over their own health and wellness.

Such a beautiful and informative book!
I really enjoyed this book! It is beautiful to look at, and has so much good info in it. The history of teas, recipes and tips. I appreciate how she tells her own story of battling cancer and how it inspired her to open her tea shop and write this book. It has changed the way I look at tea and my health! I loved it so much, I bought a copy for a friend whose mom has cancer. She read it before she gave it to her mom and now she is buying herself a copy! Definitely a keeper in my library!
