Orbital 3 - Nomads

At last Orbital is back
After a long break Orbital is back! Yo. The is a science fiction story with detective undertones and quite alot of government corruption and general organised malice. This book tells the first half of a 2 part mission back on earth, for a change. Its nice to see some Aliens that aren't bipeds and look basically like us, for a change, and there are a fair few here. Also the background scenery in these books of the advanced technological civilisations is wonderful fun.

Chance discovery at Kapow Comic Con 2011
This was a chance discovery at Kapow Comic Con 2011. I bought the first 2 and needed v3 ASAP. Seeing Amazon ask me to review v3 made me want to check on the date for v4... just ordered it!

Good story, and topical
Lots to like and some not to like. The premise comes from two agents assigned to a culturally sensitive mission, a rapprochement between peoples lately at war. But, the two agents themselves are from those peoples lately at war, and represent in themselves a hope for peace. Then, all around them, new conflicts arise - ethnic things, demeaned and misunderstood people, irrational hatreds arising among people with means to make them matter. And, under all that, some deeper wrong, that damages and undermines all those who blame each other for the wrong it creates. The art style isn't my favorite, more like Asterix than is easy to take seriously, so I find some cognitive dissonance between visual and dramaturgic. I can deal with that, though. When I find more in this series, I'll look for it.-- wiredweird

Graphics could be better...
In my opinion, graphic novels that have the format of small panels should have uncluttered drawings. I have 'Tintin', 'Asterix', 'Mortimer and Blake' etc in mind. Such panels are too small to support a lot of detail. The plot development is good though. Vol 1 to 3 have made me interested enough to look out for future volumes.
