Of the thousands of dollars I have spent on books for my nursing undergrad and master’s programs, this is by far the best $8 I’ve spent. It covers probably 90% of the APA scenarios you’ll run across. For the last, obscure 10% you’ll need the real APA manual. Yes it’s very sweary. If that bothers you, it’s not for you. For the rest of us, it’s a great guide for anyone who has to write in APA format. **Special note*** This book refers to APA 6th edition. If you use 7th edition, “Bitch Slap APA: Twice as Hard” may be your best bet.

I'm currently working on my dissertation, and need something that is a lot more condensed than the current APA bible (which, let's be honest, is fantastic as a home defense system as it can cause some good damage, but actually finding the specific thing you're looking for is like eating a soup sandwich while washing your eyes out with lemonade).Giving this 5 stars because it is a fantastic APA 6 guide, and I don't think it should be held against it that it was published back in 2016. However, if you're reading this in 2021 or later, you will definitely want to look at the newer version: Bitch Slap APA Twice As Hard (which I totally just ordered for both myself and my chair).

This book saved me. I do not write many reviews for purchases but I feel that every one needs to know how great of a purchase this was for my schooling. I’m back in college as a working adult, I don’t have time to decipher through the $75 dollar 500 page APA guide that might make me fall asleep. Ordered this book, I laughed so much that I enjoyed using it. My professor was insane about proper APA citations and after using this book he gave me compliments on my proper use of APA, even on the citations that are obscure and weird to cite such as a YouTube Video or a Press Conference. I am now in a class that is requiring MLA. As soon as I saw that I needed to know MLA I was hoping they had an APA and MLA book! Whew! Thank goodness they have both! Save yourself or your child the effort and BUY BOTH!

When you’ve spent the greater part of 9 years working towards a degree, you become familiar with writing styles. This book kept me going when I wanted to hurl textbooks and punch computers. The author knows how to make a boy smile. I felt like they talked to my soul and understood every disgruntled mumble. If you need to understand APA but also want to laugh away the stress and anxiety of writing... BUY THIS BOOK!

I bought this for a friend who was going back to grad school at 30 years old. She was very intimidated about learning APA style and using some of the online resources out there so I thought this would make her laugh and have a little more fun with it. Now that she's had it a few weeks she said it's not only entertaining but really really helpful and that other students regularly ask her to borrow it to look things up! Would be a perfect gift for any student, specifically those in the social sciences where APA style is used commonly.

Despite all of the negative comments from feminist scholars (who have not read the book--shame shame), Dr. Simmons and Mr. Byerly do a fantastic job of crafting a satirical APA manual that excites students about learning APA. I am a college professor (and feminist scholar), and teaching APA can be tedious at times, but Bitch Slap APA allows students to laugh and learn at the same time. This is not a book that demoralizes women or encourages gendered violence, it is merely a book that encourages students to take interest in learning about APA. I received my copy the other day, and it honestly it a very useful APA manual! I applaud Simmons and Byerly for stepping outside of the box and creating a manual that is far from boring. I plan to encourage my students to utilize this book in the future.

I found the APA 6th edition book frustrating and complicated. Never mind it being stuffy and a complete bore to read. Then I found this book. Its witty and brash way of explaining APA formatting was just the comical relief I needed to get through this part of my graduate career. The salty pirate-laden vernacular is not for the faint of heart or those whose sensibilities are easily offended. However, it works out just fine for the rest of us whittling away down here in the trenches of APA drudgery.

This book has helped me navigate APA with a smile instead of wanting to throw my computer across the room because I can not figure out where to put the damn comma. It makes it easy to find what you are looking for and explains it in a way that expresses how I am feeling about my problem and brings a light-hearted and humorous solution even I am capable of doing. Thank you!

This book is really rad. I hate APA with a passion and it almost made me like it a bit, knowing how much other people hated it so much that they decided to write a book about it. Really breaks the stuff down that you need to know in order to pass in your papers and get a good grade. Highly recommend if you want to shoot APA in the face.

This is my go-to book for all things APA! I am eagerly looking forward to an update to 7th edition. Please do not make me purchase the “real thing”...reading it is like pouring salt in an open wound. This book is clear, concise, easy enough to carry around, and is more than sufficient for any undergrad.

Use this for every paper. Easier to find in this small boom than even looking on the internet. Too many sites with their own altering motive and adds and misdirects. This book is as in your face a large a bit€h slap.

My English teacher recommended this book. I had been struggling with APA and he suggested that the humour would make writing the dreaded essay better. Lots of F bombs, but i’m Ok with that. It says exactly what I feel about APA.

Best book for APA ever. So funny. Concise and easy to find what I am looking for. Just wow. Congrats on making something as trivial as APA so entertaining.
