Hi, Its internal material is granular activation carbon.

Q: No installation instructions how do the connectors go in?

The following are the installation steps: 1- Remove the blue-clips at both ends of the filter; 2- Cut one end of PE pipe flat with tools; 3- Mark the end of PE pipe about 15 mm or 2/3-inch length; 4- Insert PE pipe until all the marked pipe is fully inserted. 5- Re-clamp the removed blue clips at both ends of the filter. Q: Does this filter out fluoride? If so, how much does it filter out?

Yes some not all you need a higher priced filter but it does eliminate alot of the taste of chlorine
