I think it would be 24 inches wide. It may be slightly wider but I think this means useable width and this I think is 24 inches. Hope this helps.

Q: what size spline should be used?

Not sure what size spline you would need. I think most windows take .125" or about 1/8". You will have to measure the gap in the frame and then order that size. I do not believe there is any one universal size. Sorry I cannot be of more help.

Q: Kids keep ripping holes in my patio screen by pushing on it and poking it, is this strong enough to hold?

This screen is aluminum. I found it to be quite strong. However, depending on the expanse that it may have to cover, someone leaning on it could rip it if enough pressure is applied. It should be difficult to poke holes in it but again it is screen and given excessive force it can be ripped or punctured. I used it on a back screen door and it has held up remarkably well. It is aluminum and I am not certain if it could be used if it is to replace fiberglass screen which is weaker. My screen was put into a wood frame. Fiberglass usually uses a cord like material to keep it in place. I like aluminum it is stronger for the same size gauge in my case.
