It is essentially crisco and sugar mixed with lemon flavoring. it does a fantastic job of providing energy when you can't cook in any outdoor expedition. would recommend keeping a few in an emergency kit in the garage and car.keep a couple zip locks to store remainder as it is great to eat a bit at a time.

I keep these as emergency rations, but also decided to try them hiking. They're not I dividually wrapped, and the package isn't re-sealable so it lost a star. I like that the first ingredient isn't sugar, like a similar product. I didn't love the blocks, they are bulky, and difficult to eat. And crumbs everywhere. It tasted like a boring not-too-sweet cookie. But I could eat it without needing to drink anything to wash it down. One 400 calorie bar is enough for a 4 hour hike on fairly technical terrain. And price-wise, it's comparable to energy bars, and much tastier than most.
