I have a cheap 2.5 gallon tank and of course it came with a little filter that takes those carbon inserts. I'm not a fan of them, since changing out filter media frequently doesn't really help with the nitrogen cycle. So decided to try stuffing some sponge in there instead. Then found this. Ordered it figuring I'd give it a go. It's really nice sponge. 3 distinct layers, not just different colors or something. I cut it to size, then the water was backflowing out of the filter because it wasn't flowing through the sponge fast enough. So I cut a corner down a bit so water can flow a little faster. Problem solved. This is probably my go to media for hob or internal filters now.I generally prefer regular sponge filters, but wasn't feeling like buying one and a pump when the filter I have can work 😅

I developed a lot of alge in my tank and I couldn’t get rid of it! This product is great! I was able to cut it really small which helps the longevity of the product. My tank hasn’t looked this clear in ages! This mixed with an ammonia filter, works great and won’t hurt the bank account. Couldn’t be happier

Wanted to consolidate down my media by getting a 3 layer filter for my HOB. While I am impressed with the quality, the issue here is that cutting it to size is a nightmare. I had to use pruning sheers to cut to size as normal sheers will struggle to make cuts.Overall, not a bad product, but I think Ill stick with Filter floss and 3 individual sponge density.
