Loved it, but wasn’t keen on him or the way that he treat Evie at the beginning!
Once I got past the caveman antics of Matteo I loved this book. It’s well written and only the odd spelling mistake. Matteo was way too controlling and domineering for me. Evie is on the run from her violent and controlling boyfriend. When she takes refuge in an abandoned building, she witness Matteo killing two men. He spots her and terrifies her then makes her marry him. I wasn’t loving him at this point!!! When she goes out of the house shopping one day, he treats her like a naughty child and doesn’t speak to her for days. 😡😡😡Evie after being physically abused is terrified of everything and everyone. For a while in his house she daren’t use anything, touch anything and again Matteo doesn’t help as he’s very stern with her at first. As time goes on she comes out of her shell and starts gaining in confidence. And more importantly starts sticking up for herself.Moving past all of the above, once he stopped behaving like an ar*ehole I really liked Matteo and I did enjoy the book. Evie grew on me as well when she stopped letting Matteo boss her around. It’s well written and in parts is amusing.

Pleasantly surprised by how this turned out
I love Melanie Moreland’s writing…. She’s on my auto-buy list and for good reason.Going into The Boss I didn’t know what to expect. I hadn’t read it in it’s previous life as a short story, didn’t check out the blurb or anything about it and I was pleasantly surprise by how things turned out.Evie is on the run when she seems to stumble from one life threatening interaction to another. Interestingly enough, things aren’t quite gonna go as she fears and she’s handed a life line of sorts…. But can she trust The Boss and why would he want to help her?.Matteo… for a while I just wasn’t sure what to make of him.. was he dark or light, saviour or jailer… but as we read on we find out there’s much more to this man than meets the eye and he’s maybe more shadow than anything else!Things move quickly in this read, feelings, events, thoughts and actions but I loved every minute of it and it all added to the uncertainty that the characters felt and the connection that was being built. The backstory to how Matteo got to where he was had my heart hurting and I understood the path he’d taken but I was more than happy that he’d encountered Evie and that she added some colour and warmth to his world.I’m looking forward to the next instalment in the Men of Hidden Justice series.

Ooh, lots going on
Starts off with violence, then a sudden change of events for the main character. Really enjoyed this read, although it got syrupy in the epilogue for me, so dropped a star.

Dramatic and suspenseful
I love a romance with a bit of edge and suspense and this ticks all the boxes.Evie and Matteo meet after she flees a violent situation and finds herself in the midst of another. A story filled with drama, suspense and a number of strong characters it was captivating from the very first page. Matteo is part of an organised group clearing the world of its worst specimens but once faced with Evie he cannot hold back his protective urge.Whilst this is a different style to what we are used to from Melanie Moreland you still get her sense of instant attraction and sensuality, strong leads that work together. I can't wait to see where these Men of Hidden Justice take us!

Wonderful read
This book was so different from previous books written by Melanie. The different genre did concern me but after the first chapter I was hooked. It did not disappoint. All the feels and so tense at times. I read in one sitting. Eagerly looking forward to the next one.
