In my parents generation, Selenium was rich in the soil and we did not have to worry. With all the intensive farming, the soil is now largely lacking and so it has become a common deficiency. It is recognised by the Arthritic Society to help with joints and has now recently been acknowledged to be a very protective mineral, particulary with breast cancer prevention. The media could not be loaded.  A few years ago I had serious problems with my thyroid, necessitating industrial quantities of drugs and radiotherapy to sort it out. My endocrinologist and eye disease consultants independently recommended I take a daily dose of selenium as it is essential to healthy thyroid function (who knew?). Selenium is found in trace amounts in a variety of foods (Brazil nuts are a good source) but to get a measured, consistent dose you need to take a supplement.I've been taking selenium on a daily basis ever since (eight years and counting) and I normally take it in tablet form of 200mcg strength, which is the same as these capsules, so how do they stack up?It's really good that there is clear information on the tub regarding composition, I'm not vegan but I know a number of vegans and they sometimes have difficulty in knowing for certain that a product is vegan - no problem with that here. It's also nice to know that the tub is made from BioPET (a plastic based on 30% renewable raw material, in this case sugar cane, and 70% oil-based raw material) which is a better environmental solution that standard plastic. The dosage is stated as one per day which is standard for 200mcg strength tablets/capsules of selenium. My usual tablets have a distinctive garlic/farmyard smell which isn't pleasant but doesn't taste of anything. These capsules are a bit larger and have a slight trace of the 'farmyard' smell but again no discernible taste. Capsules are often easier to swallow than tablets, and as you can see from the pictures these are fairly standard capsules - my usual tablet is pictured alongside for comparison - and as you can see they're not too dissimilar in over all size, just a different shape.Price wise they stack up very well against my usual brand - £9.73 (as at 19 November 2022) for 180 as opposed to approximately £16 for 240 of my usual brand, which I tend to buy when on offer.I see no reason to doubt their effectiveness, and I am more than happy to use them myself.

These selenium capsules smell somewhat unpleasant! I had a sniff when I took the lid off, it’s like you can smell the outer part of the capsule really strongly. I found when I swallowed one I needed to take it with a lot of water or I could feel it going down, and afterwards I felt like I could taste it again in a sort of reflux way.For the price, I have bought other selenium supplements at a cheaper price and in tablet form, which I found easier to swallow.

Capsules are easy to swallow. Good value for 3 months supply. It works but isn't quite as effective as my usual brand, so I have had to take a double dose on occasion.

These are small capsules, which are easy to swallow. You take one a day, so the tub will last for 3 months; at the current price of £5.98, I think that is good value for Selenium as they tend to be a more expensive supplement.Selenium is one of the 7 supplements I take daily for my Non-Alcoholic Fatty Liver Disease (NAFLD). Healing a fatty liver is very slow going, I had an issue with Paracetamol and Lansoprazole, cutting out the former completely and changing the latter to Omeprazole helped a lot but my levels were still way too high and refusing to budge anymore. NAFLD isn't treated on the NHS, they only monitor it with regular blood tests and scans when necessary. I got a book from Amazon at the end of 2017 about how to heal a fatty liver and have been taking these supplements since the beginning of 2018 every day ever since then. I don't actually feel any better but my bloodwork has improved massively since taking them and my doctor has told me that it is working so to carry on doing what I'm doing.

Selenium has made a massive difference to me. I’ve been suffering from problems which can be related to my thyroid for months now. One dr agreed with me, another totally disagreed with me and told me it was menopause. I saw a dr explain how to check the outline of your thyroid and low and behold, mine was lumpy. I eventually got another dr appointment and had to beg and argue for a full blood test with the dr who didn’t think it was thyroid problems. That was weeks ago and I’ve been told the results are delayed, so I’ve taken matters into my own hand. I added iodine and selenium to my diet, and lo and behold the majority of my symptoms have cleared up.I’m sleeping better, my temperature has normalised, I feel clearer headed, more emotionally balanced, and a lot less confused.

I have been advised by an NHS consultant to take a selenium supplement and I seem to be getting on fine with these. As far as I can tell, they are good selenium capsules. They do not carry any specific endorsements like the GMP label, but they are made in the EU which does give confidence. They are vegan, they deliver a standard 200mg dose of selenium in a bio-accessible form and the ingredients are pretty clean with the standard things you’d expect.These are a good price for a six months supply and they suit me. I can recommend them on that basis.
