The book only had one corner of the paper cover was slightly damaged. Binding looks like it never was opened. Very pleased!

Excellant introduction as to what why & who is nominated to recieve this most distinguished recognition of Valor & Honor. The examples of valor & bravery of normal men put into situations they didn't ask for or purposely saught after. Men of integrity know their purpose in life & when tested will do the right & honorable thing. Extreme situatuations will do only two things to us. One it brings to mind our own connection to each other as fellow human beings, without thinking about it they jump in to help or save. Second we could choose to go in the opposite direction & run or leave. Be self centered & uncaring. In the instances of these brave men they chose to help & save to the best of their abilities. They all went above & beyond themselves & thought of others. It is ashame that today a lot of our schools choose not to teach our youth the history of ALL our county's wars & conflicts. Then maybe our future generations would truly understand that Freedom is not free. It is earned & watched over so it is not lost. War is not a good thing but when freedom is at stake then it does have it's purpose. The Lord did not promise us a perfect world. But he did promise that all human beings would have their own freedom to pick & choose. When someone tries to take that free agency away from us. I pray & hope their are & will always be brave men & women. Willing to fight for & keep it safe, for them & our future generations to come. My husband & I are both Navy Veterans. We pray every day for the safety & well being of all our families, our country, & all the Veterans of our country. George Washington once stated, The way we treat our veterans will reflect on what kind of country we truly are.

Out of many books written about Medal of Honor recipients I place this book as one of the best in term of honoring them. Other books I have read in the past more or less regurgitated the recipients citation of bravery in action which though informative was lacking when compared to this book.The people responsible for bringing this book into reality have really spent time and effort to make this book truly unique in that they have managed to include letters of appreciation from President Obama and all living ex-presidents as well as other notable people giving their respect in forward and essays.This book does not list all Medal of Honor recipients but rather living recipients (some have passed away by the time 3rd. Edition was release) where it was possible for author and photographer to meet them in person. Each recipient's page had before photo of their youth and another photo in later year. I like the fact that each paragraphs written about recipient's valor though short was thoughtfully written; some of which I find it incredulous, yet true. I felt having individual photos of before and later was brilliant. I don't know what other readers think but to me, it made it all the more real and all the more amazing.Texts and photos are traditional means of conveying history but what I consider icing on the cake was the inclusion of 90-minute DVD where some of the recipients have graciously agreed to be interviewed on camera. I did not see in its entirety but what I have seen was impressive enough. One-to-one interview where recipient gave what they remembered of the action that led to being awarded the nation's highest honor.Text, still photos and DVD video packaged all into one make compelling combination to those interested in wanting to know just a little bit of what these people went through serving our country.

The book was a huge hit with my Dad for Christmas. He is an Army man and loves to read up on all things military. He loved it.

I ordered two of these books. One for myself, an Air Force veteran, and one as a gift for my father-in-law, an Army veteran. This book literally gave me chills. It contains passages from Presidents Obama, George W. Bush, George H.W.Bush, Jimmy Carter and Bill Clinton. The preface contains a fascinating history on the the origins of the Medal, followed by 156 entries profiling some of the 3,500 Medal winners. The photographs are stunning and the content reminds me of why we serve, what it means to serve and to never forget those who gave some and those who gave all.

Would have given 5 stars if the actual citations were included. A tribute to great Americans who exhibited incredible actions for their fellow warriors.

Nice book. Gave to my husband as gift. So many uplifting and inspiring stories. The bravery and sacrifice of these men is unbelievable.

Great book. Everyone should read it and understand the bravery and sacrifices of our soldiers .
