Pro-Cheap & quick alternative; Con-Be ready to spend more on SD card & maybe to replace the cam!
I have 5 of them. 2 external, 1 dome & 2 Internal 1080.Pro - As I have titled, it is a cheap and quick alternative. wireless etc.. all other good stuff.Cons - I have 6 different issues.1) Too Sensitive even when it is set to "Low" (like flies, mosquitos & spiders or for a plant or bush branch moves in the air) and sends a notification. Need some AI code to recognize and eliminate these annoying notifications.2) The high-power phone/Windows laptop and the Yi cam are all connected to the same wireless network and are placed near the router with the full WiFi signal. The picture quality is acceptable BUT there is always a delay few seconds delay in the picture.3) One external cam failed to see in the dark as the infra lights went dark in 15months after I bought it.4) I have continuous recording. For some reason, the cams stop recording but the standard cam function is normal. So far, I have experienced it in 3 cams (two external & one internal 1080).5) For some reason the can SD card stopped working and I pop in new working 16GB or 32GB cards in it but the cam hardly recognizes the full SD card capacity even after formatting it in cam.6) Major issue - The stopped SD card which was popped out of these cams won’t open in windows but it is recognized. looks like some kind of security lock in the first sector or totally corrupted. I have 4 SD cards that are locked like that. And I see no help on this issue at all :( .

Excellent camera for the price, quality control issues.
I own 5 YI cameras and this one is by far the best, I wish all of them had the features of this one. The 25fps HD is crystal clear even in the dark. The wide angle lens is amazing, it can see my entire garage from one corner. The human detection could use some work. I have a small bantam hen in a brooder with 9 chicks and occasionally it will pick up the hen as "human." lol The app works great (until recently when it started popping up uncloseable ads every now and then when you open the app) and is easy to use, easy to setup, add, and share cameras.Out of the 5 cameras I've had to replace 2 of them right away. The first one of these I got, it wouldn't turn on due to a bad power cable. After I plugged in another cable it then had mic issues where it was constantly picking up static hits. I emailed YI about it and they seemed happy to help, they wanted "proof", ain't no body got time for that. I just sent it back to Amazon and got another and it was perfect. Also this one comes with a piece of 3M tape for mounting...they need to just make the base mountable like with the dome cameras. All of the cameras suffer from poor wifi signals. I don't think they put a big enough transmitter/receiver in these or the antennas are too short. I've added additional routers to my house to help with the signal and it seems sometimes even if the router is just on the other side of the wall from one of these cameras it still will pop up with a poor connection warning. It does come with free cloud service. What that means is when your camera detects motion it sends an alert. It uploads a 6 second video clip and several photos to the cloud. When your phone gets the alert it downloads these from the cloud, not the camera. That's how it works fast. After viewing the clip you can connect to the camera with a press of a button and view the rest of the clip from the camera itself. There are two levels of cloud service, the first being very similar to what comes with the camera for free, except the entire clip is uploaded and stored in the cloud when motion is detected. This is $7/mo and supports up to 5 cameras. For the same price you can switch it to continuous cloud upload, but it only supports 1 camera. Also if your wifi goes down, these being wifi cams become useless. So if someone broke in and your wifi was down, you wouldn't get an alert until the wifi was restored. The cameras have no backup power either.

Can't disable IR lights - won't work when pointed at a window.
I've had the 720p version of this cam for a little over a year now, and it's worked great. Image quality is decent, motion detection works well, and overall, I'd give it 5 stars. I saw the 1080p version on sale for black friday, and decided to upgrade. Unfortunately, I've run into a few issues.I have the camera positioned in a window, looking at the front door. Unfortunately, when "Night Vision Mode" is enabled, the IR LEDs in the camera reflect on the window, which looks like the attached image. It's basically unusable at night, and there is no way to disable JUST the lights while keeping IR mode on like the 720 version supports.I've also been unable to get any motion detection working. I've:- Turned on "Motion Detection"- Set an "Activity Region" (just like I've set up on the 720p version)- Also turned on the new "Human Detection" feature- Set "Sensitivity Level" and "Alert Frequency" set to "High"On the 720p Yi cam, I'd get anywhere from 30-40 alerts in a 24 hour period. Today I had 6 packages delivered (yay Christmas!) and left the house 3-4 times. This camera logged one motion alert, and it didn't push the notification to my phone. The image quality on this Yi Cam is so much better than the 720p version, but I can't count on it to alert me when motion occurs, and it's worthless at night.I've tried contacting Yi customer support to outline the issues I'm having, but they were of little help. The first response I got assured me that the setting to turn off the IR was there: "This camera is a little different but you will still see night vision settings under settings for the camera."I sent a followup email, where I asked (again) if I could turn the lights off or if the option had been removed. They responded, "Correct, it is a little different as this camera can see darker images in color. Turn to always off to disable the IR mode."I'll update this review if I manage to get the IR lights disabled, or if Yi responds, but I'll most likely end up returning this and keep my trusty 720p version instead.Update for 12/19/17 - Yi Support can only recommend turning night vision to "Always Off", which disables both the IR lights and night vision mode. When I asked for them to confirm if the only way to disable the IR lights was to disable night vision mode, they responded, "Correct, it is a little different as this camera can see darker images in color. Turn to always off to disable the IR mode."This means you'll see "streaks" of light at night and the frame rate seems to drop to compensate for the lack of light. I did manage to solve the missing alert issue though! When "Human Detection" is turned on, NO alerts will ever fire for motion UNLESS a human is detected. The camera is positioned at my front gate, and unfortunately it hasn't alerted me to a human more than 5 times since purchasing. I've turned Human Detection off and get a few extra alerts, but I'm now happy I can detect motion like I used to.
