Q: Does it work on the grass?

Yes it does work very well on the grass. Its sturdy medal, very well made. We have kept our Granddaughters inside mostly for the cold winter days and take it outside on the warm days. On line i kept looking at a plastic rocking horse that i wondered if would be easier for a 17 month toddler, but decided on this one thinking we may get longer usage time before outgrowing. And i am so glad we did now seeing that she was able to understand how to use it and place her feet on the same day we got it. And she will be able to continue to use it for many years. Along with the fact this metal one is ideal for outdoors as much as indoors.
