Bitter indeed !
His "nom de plume" was "Maxim Gorki". His real name was Alexei Maximovich Peshkov (pronounced "Pee-yaysh-kof").He chose "Maximovich" because it means "son of Maxim". Maxim was his father's name.He chose "Maxim" for the first part of his writer's name and "Gorki" for his last. "Gorki" in Russian means "bitter". And yes, his upbringing was indeed bitter. If half of the things happened to all of us that happened to him in his childhood and teenage years, woe-be-unto-us!The book is actually Part 2 of a three-volume book. Part 1 is "My Childhood". This book, Part 2 is "In the World." I've read both Parts 1 & 2. There's a Part 3 I'm just now starting. It's "My Universities." But I highly recommend reading all of them. One suggestion is that you keep your cell phone nearby so you can look up things and places as he mentions them. It's what I do..

Too many typos!
An incredible book made unintelligible by an astounding number if typos!!Five stars for the story. One star for this mess of an edition. It must have been scanned mechanically and never edited nor even looked over before printing.I’ve never seen so many mistakes in any book!! Several per page! Some are quite small, but some are large, with chunks of text missing.Sad. But at least it was cheap.
