This will take everything to hold yourself together and not fall apart in a complete mess.
“If there was one thing she’d learnt over the past few months, it was how to calm herself down. To soothe her own pain. To be her own support system. Maybe that was what happened when you had your heart broken… it grew back harder and more protected than before.”Aged thirteen, best friends Eleanor and Fin are inseparable and make a pact - to go to university together, always live near each other, and if they're both single at 35 they'll get married. In two decades, they're both far from where they'd dreamt of being all those years ago.It takes tragic circumstances for Fin to come back into Eleanor's life, but everything has changed since the last time they met. Is it too late to mend their friendship? Or can they keep some of the promises they made?At its most basic outline, Last Time We Met is a friends-to-lovers story. And yet, the way Emily Houghton tells it makes it stand apart. She balances her story-telling with highs and lows that take you a rollercoaster. The premise peels away the layers that bind our perception of love, loss, family, friendships, and simplifies our understanding of relationships. An emotionally rich, character-driven story with a brilliant cast, it inspires hope and promises new beginnings. I do warn you though, reading this will take everything to hold yourself together and not fall apart in a complete mess. This ARC courtesy of Netgalley and Transworld Publishers. For complete review, visit aquamarineflavours.wordpress.com

Good writer
I liked this book. This is the second book I've read by this new author, and I totally enjoy her writing style. The book is well plotted, characters well drawn, situation believable and I looked forward to getting back to it. My less than 5 stars resulted from the four to six chapters before the last. Her characters are in their mid-thirties with a maturity level of about 18 in those scenes. Disappointing. They've known each other their entire lives, yet . . . I felt it became way overly dramatic and kept hoping the writer would redeem herself by the last chapter. Fortunately, she did. I loved the last chapter.

A real page-turner!
Fin and Eleanor’s stories kept me guessing until the end. The warmth, humour and compassion of the main characters made them very likeable with me willing them to end up together. I enjoy how Emily writes, allowing us to get to know the characters at the same time as slowly unraveling their back stories and what has happened in the past to make them the people they are now. I thoroughly enjoyed this book and am looking forward to the next one.

A really heartwarming book
I thought this book was even better than Emily Houghtons debut novel. The characters were really well crafted and I felt that I cared about what happened to them. Very enjoyable book to read. Can’t wait for her next one.

Hard work lives
The characters in this life long story are superb full of good intentions but oblivious to the genuine love they have
