Q: Is this a febco kit 905-212 which includes both the poppet and bonnet for a 1" febco 765 pvb?

Mine came with poppet, bonnet, gaskets and lube. Installs in your existing brass body and you reuse the brass hood.

Q: What do I measure to see if it’s a 1/2 to 3/4” or 1 to 1-1/2”?

The brass housing marked Febco 765- 1 means that it uses a 1" feed pipe. If your brass housing is marked Febco 765 without the 1 means that it uses a 3/4" feed pipe.

Q: Will my irrigation system work if my backflow preventer not operating?

The problem with back flow preventers is that they bust when they freeze or otherwise leak (visible to the outside). Regardless the irrigation system will work but you will be wasting water. There is not a possible scenario where a problematic BFP would prevent your irrigation system from operating. Note: If the isolation valves are shut off the irrigation system will not work.

That is correct. Fits both sizes. Manufacturer kept the guts of the valve the same, only the valve pipe connections are different.
