I love these little gadgets and multi-tools, so I couldn't resist getting a couple of these, one for me and a couple to use as gifts. It is as advertised, a multi-function pen. But it's not quite as easy to use as I would have liked.Ideally, the most primary functions should be easy to access and use. The flashlight is. It's on the end of the pen and is easily and quickly operated by a small button, and the lens cover also slides out a bit if you want to adjust the beam.The next item I'd have preferred easy operation of is the pen. But nearly all the functions of this device except for the flashlight require some assembly. The pen, whistle, bottle opener, screw driver, and glass-break hammer all require some steps where you unscrew a part of the pen, adjust a part, then screw a part back in. I get it, in this form factor you sort of have to operate it that way, it isn't like a plier or knife multi-tool where there's more surface area to put a tool or just have them rotate out of the handle. But it's just something to consider. This isn't a tool that's really convenient to use.Quick notes on the functions:- Pen: Having to unscrew a cap to access it is a real bummer. It works, I suppose, and I do like that they give you a replacement ink capsule, but as the ink is in a non-standard size, I'm not sure where to get other replacements.- Flashlight: works pretty well and also comes with your first set of replacement batteries. Probably the best feature.- Glass-break hammer: Looks like it'll do the job. You do have to unscrew a cap to get to it. I worry about losing the cap.- Screwdriver: You unscrew another piece of the pen and inside it there's a two-sided bit that you can use to drive Phillips or flathead screws. Ok for spot or emergency use.- Bottle opener: This was one of the hardest to get to. You have to unscrew cap, then unscrew the glass-break hammer bit, flip it (the other side has the bottle opener), then screw the assembly back into the main pen barrel. It's a decent looking bottle opener that should work, but the time it takes to get it ready is a deterrent. I would likely use another bottle opener if I had it handy. For emergency needs, it's fine.- Whistle. Easy enough to operate once you unscrew the part you need to get to it, but it doesn't really make a loud sound. This tool was the most disappointing of the lot.The overall quality seems very good. The pen is sturdy and made of steel and the parts fit and turn nicely. I'd say this is great as a novelty gift that also has some use, but more as an emergency item in the glove compartment than in your pocket. It's a bit too big to be kept as a frequent-use pen.
