I have chosen the classic Sawtooth Star Quilt Block for this handcrafted quilted pincushion or paperweight. There are three cotton fabrics used in the construction of the Sawtooth Star Block: a deep tonal red, an abstract print in greens, teals, golds, blues and brown, and a batik in bright greens. Two blocks have been used to make the pincushion. One Sawtooth Star block is used for the front of the pincushion, and one Sawtooth Star Block is used for the back of the pincushion. The batting is cotton. The blocks have been quilted with a green variegated thread. The pincushion measures approximately 4 by 4 inches. The pincushion is filled with brown rice. The rice provides stability along with a little weight and acts as an organic humidity regulator. Rice is a desiccant. Desiccants absorb moisture If your sewing room has humidity, the rice will help your needles stay oxide free.
