How to build and maintain a strong, healthy body.
This book tells you everything you need to know about strength training (including fitness, health and nutrition) and then tells you how to do it. It is easy to read and refer back to. I find the key takeaways at the end of each chapter particularly useful. Michael has a no nonsense, sensible approach, without gimmicks. There is a basic routine to follow to include all muscle groups. You can adapt it to your own ability by using the easier or more challenging alternatives and changing the weight, number of reps and sets. The exercises are clearly explained and illustrated, including what to do and what not to do. I have been using the exercise routine for four weeks and now know it by heart. I am not new to exercise, but I am a 66 year old female, who was beginning to feel flabby and lazy. I am already feeling stronger, have more vitality and am sleeping better. I am also maintaining my enthusiasm because the routine is simple and does not take up a large chunk of my day. Thank you Michael from one very satisfied customer.

Good for getting in the mindset and planning.
Nice overview of strength training. Gives progressive techniques for the absolute beginner. It's helped me plan my week and my sets.

If this book doesn't get you off the couch, nothing will
'Did you know, once you get past 40, you may lose 1lb of muscle for every passing year?' With an opening line like that, you know this is going to be a book that doesn't just give you guidance on how to look after your body, but why you should. As you read on, it's like having your own personal trainer at your side, dropping these little motivators in front of you – 'As little as 30 minutes of proper strength training exercise a couple of times a week for about 2-3 months can reverse as much as 10-30 years of decline in strength and function.'The book follows a logical structure that starts with the importance of exercise and making sure it's the right kind of exercise... to the six best compound exercises for over 40s and the ultimate workout plan to put things into practice... the importance of recovery, managing your nutrition and how to stay on track and reach your goals. This is a book packed with solid research, that covers all the bases in a no-nonsense, easy-to read style.

11.5 Pages of actual workout
I'm a bit disappointed. Only Chapter 6 11.5 pages, are about the actual workout, rest of the book is a bout motivation, diet etc. Total book has 195 pages, so less than 10% is about the actual workout plan :-(

Focused on the needs of older men.
Very comprehensive. Shows that gym membership or expensive equipment is not necessary. Allows one to take up exercise without being subjected to an intensive regime. A very well written book on the subject.

Simply brilliant
I am a women, well over 40, and I only started strength training 10 months ago - I follow 2 free trainers on YouTube.I wish I had read this book earlier! My body is in the best shape it has ever been! With strength training and a rejig of my diet, 3 stone lighter and leaner, the results speak for themselves. The key lesson for me from this book was learning how crucial rest days are, which I have not prioritised. Now I understand these are part of the process to build strength, equal to the workout itself. I will no longer feel guilty taking a day off! Who knew..Read it...I cannot recommend it enough if you are new to strength training, or just need a recap.

Waste of time unless you've never lifted weights in your life
There is is nothing in here that isn't common sense unless you've never picked up a weight before. If that's the case then maybe it is for you. But really it is the same advice for first time lifting weights at any age.
