Jack and Jill and Big Dog Bill: A Phonics Reader (Step Into Reading)

One of the best early readers series!
This was the first Step 1 book my daughter read (at the library, all by herself) and convinced me to purchase almost the entire set of books. These Step Into Reading books are excellent as they have a high-interest factor that motivates her to read. The stories are also wonderfully illustrated in full color, and being a visual learner, my daughter latched on to these books quickly. These Step 1 series are recommended for preschool-K - the stories are in large type and the vocabulary is easy. The stories are also in a rhyming format which makes them easy and fun to read. The full color pictures also provide contextual clues as to the word being used in the text. These early readers have raised my daughter's confidence level in reading, and she is doing so well that I'm purchasing the Step Two books (Preschool-Grade 1). I use these books in conjunction with sight words to reinforce her recognition of common vocabulary.

A Great Early Reader
I cannot say enough about Jack and Jill and Big Dog Bill. While my son is interested in being read to, he hasn't yet developed enough confidence to attempt words on his own. Jack and Jill and Big Dog Bill has allowed him to begin to attempt reading on his own, due to the rhyming words and repetitive phrases/story line present. While the story line is cute, with some funny parts to keep children interested, that's not the main reason for loving this book. This book is the first "early reader" we've tried that is truly appropriate for someone starting out reading. I'd highly recommend it.

Cute level 1 - but very easy
Very easy level 1 reader. I wish there were a better level system for these books, as some level 1 readers are much harder than this. I would say this is beginning of Kindergarten level. It's is a nice book with rhyming words. Most of the words are very simple and easily sounded out. They are also repeated throughout. The illustrations are cute and the story is engaging. There is also good practice with quotations (ie: "Go Bill!" say Jack and Jill.) I do also love the size of the text. All in all, this book was too easy for my kinder, but it was a fun winter school gift, even if it was too easy. (picture attachment to give you an idea of the text)

A Favorite with My Little Ones
This is a really cute story and a favorite of both my little ones (ages 6 and 3). I purchased this book a couple of years ago when my daughter, (the 6 year old) started reading. The story engaged her interest from the very beginning and the phonetic words made it easy for her to quickly learn to read the book on her own. It is a cute story with great pictures, and manages to tell a full, rhyming story with minimal words that can all be sounded out by a child who has some phonics experience. I highly recommend this book for any little one who is a beginning reader.....and even for those who are able to read. My six year old is way past this book now, but still loves to read it.

Taught My Grandson to Read
I had my 5 year old grandson for 2 weeks. I read this to him about 3-5 times in a couple of days, pointing at each word and making sure he knew the phrases. To keep his attention, we discussed the rabbit and what he was up to, how and why the dog did what he did, etc.. I asked him on the 3rd day if he wanted to read it. He said yes, so I walked him through each page, letting him try it, first. He tried to just remember the words with the pictures, which was okay, because it helped him remember. About the third time he tried to read it, I showed him that Jill, Bill and hill have the same ending spellings and they all say ill. That's when the light switch went on and the wheels began to turn in his little head. Within another 2 days, he could READ over 200 words! (I made a list of 3-letter words with short vowel sounds and kept similar words together, such as bat, cat, fat, hat, mat, rat, sat, so he could see the similarity and focus more on the different letter. The reason I give this book so much credit is because it gave my grandson the JOY and the HUNGER that helped him learn. I would recommend this book to every family with a child who's ready to read. Don't push, but encourage pointing at each word as it is read, so it will help the child see the words never change and they can learn the differences that make different words. Be patient and let them work it out, giving them ONLY hints that will help and telling them ONLY after 2 or 3 unsuccessful tries. You don't want them discouraged, but you don't want to give them all the answers, either.

Fun and Funny
My five year old loves this book and has to read it aloud at least once a week. I even found the antics of Jack, Jill and Bill Dog Bill entertaining the first 3 times we read it ( kinda over it now but what can you do ) . For those learning to read I highly recommend this book. It is easy enough to read to build confidence and helps children learn about rhyme.

Simple text, eloborate images, fun story
This is a super fun book. The text is easy to read as it's repetitive as well. But the images tell their own story. My kid had a blast with it 👏👏

Good for learning to read.
Bought for 3 year old is American but as we had the Biff and Chip thought would try something bit different, my three year old loved the short story - reads the words now and found it funny especially when the dog gives up and Jack and Jill take him up the hill instead. Recommended.

In rima
Una rima sulla neve per una versione diversa di Jack and Jill, abbastanza divertente da coinvolgere i piccini alla lettura.

Pour debuter a la fois la lecture et l'Anglais
Dessins adorables et humoristiques, textes courts aux consonnances repetitives qui captent l'attention de l'enfant. Tres bien pour le lire a un tout petit, qui plus tard le lira tout seul comme l'une de ses premieres lectures.
