Great for beginners or people who have been trying to tan for years!
I have been working on figuring out tanning hides for 30+ years and this stuff did the trick! Unfortunately the hide I started with was a calf hide so it was huge and heavy. This was one of the first calves out of our bull and he's been a beauty from the day be was born. My son showed him for 2 years and we had 2 tanneries lined out to take this hide a year in advance. Then Covid hit and the tanneries all closed and the butcher availability got sketchy. There was no holding off the butcher date until we found someone else to do the hide so it was either, don't do it, or do it ourselves. This stuff comes with great instructions and their website has excellent tips. It took us several hours a day for 2 whole weeks but it turned out great! It was to big to stretch and "work" like we needed to so it's a little stiff, but it is tanned and doesn't stink or even smell a little and the hair isn't slipping. We found a belt sander works great for the "hide thinning". With all the tips and directions, I am very happy with this stuff. Now I am.dying to try some smaller hides!!
