You’re probably like me who tried to order a replacement battery from AKAI and they’re all out. You’ve searched high and low, and - BOOM! Here’s one on Amazon! But not so fast…It connects & powers the device just fine, but if you own an earlier manufactured model of the EWI 5000, the battery is slightly too wide, or diameter is slightly too wide to fit in the battery compartment by a couple of millimeters. (The length is actually correct).>>DO NOT<< TAMPER WITH THE BATTERY, OR IT MIGHT EXPLODE!I had to file/sand down the side walls & edges of the battery compartment of my EWI (it was beyond warranty at this point). If you have a drummel, even better & sand that MF’er down till the battery slides in. If you don’t have a drummel, use a small file, don’t use sandpaper.Apparently, these batteries fit more recently manufactured EWI 5000’s.Try not to go long periods of time without playing your EWI, or else the battery will drain & die. I was told it takes 3 months for the battery to go completely dead. Mine did it in 2.

This is a 18650 based battery with built in voltage regulator/charging circuit under the shrink wrap. It will not fit the older Akai EWI 5000 black, as that model used a 16650 based battery, smaller diameter. I've got the new battery in my Ewi white and working fine.
