Great for English Learners
These are fantastic books for struggling writers. I love that each lesson guides students clearly through the steps of the writing process and helps them structure their writing. I and several of my colleagues are using these books with ELs grades 4-7 and they have definitely helped these students improve their writing skills. The pages are also not too "childish" in appearance to appeal to middle school writers.

Eh. Not terrible.
This is a pretty good resource. I like the graphic organizers, and some of the topics are really fun, but it's a brief book. There are maybe 3 lessons per type of writing, and some definite redundancy in the lessons. I wish that the lessons were a little more scaffolded, but it's a pretty good thing to help you supplement your instruction.

Love it!
I don't like to purchase books that you can't look inside of before buying, but I took a chance on this book, and am so glad I did. I love the ideas! It is set up to use the gradual release of responsibility along with the writing instruction, and has some excellent ideas that will really help make sure the Common Core writing standards are being met. Very good purchase!

A great book of practice writing skills
It has Opinion Writing, Informational Writing and Narrative Writing lessons with explanation and special field with guidance to write your short story. The ONLY thing I wish it had - SOME EXAMPLES up front of a good story written.

Like what I see
I haven't used it yet in the classroom. It is easy to follow the lessons and it seems like students will learn the different writing formats and then can apply to other writings within the school year.
