It’s all in one and one of a kind
I bought this for my daughter. She’s learning how to play the guitar. She said it’s been hard because the guitar is too big. I came across the Artiphon when a passenger had this and she gave me a brief review and just looking at the gleam in her eyes when she talks about it made me review this product on YouTube. I watched her unbox, plug in and PLAY! It sounds beautiful! Then she tried the other instruments and Wow! We were on the videophone for hours because her kids came into the room and they started playing it and it was beautiful! The best part, they also had that gleam in their eyes! I loved every moment of it and was glad to have gotten something spectacular for her. I even played 20 questions with her lol and of course, she never got it. Ha ha ha. It’s a must get instrument, lightweight and easy to bring around. My daughter says that they bring it everywhere they go! Awesome!

save your money
Ok, hm, for a long time I was looking for an instrument that could be some kind of a bridge between a piano and a guitar. I've tried several products, but was not satisfied. Then, somehow I came across this thing....watched all videos that I could find, read all available reviews.I was a bit skeptical because there was no much videos on youtube, mostly it's only one guy that played several songs with this thing. And more or less that's it. strange. from the ads this the artiphon seemed to be the instrument I was long looking for.So, I decided to give it a try....and.....it's total crap. not that it's not possible to play notes and etc. its possible, and it plays. In the end, its just a toy. it plays a lot of errors, and you have to twist sensitivity to try and get the feel that your comfortable with what you're playing. It's not that my expectations were that instrument will be ideal, but I expected much more. it's almost useless. I mean, you can create some music with it, but there are more convenient and easy ways to do that.If you play guitar and have a sound card, try jam origin (audio to midi), it's not ideal either, but it's at the least as good as the artiphon, and I personally think that's it's much better and much much cheaper. I really regret I spent money on this thing.

A glorious device that doubles as a work of art
A bit quirky for non-iPad use, but still a glorious device that doubles as a work of art.

Disappointing!!
Terribly disappointed. First of all, if you're a Windows user, there's not much hope for you. But what's worse, even if I was an Apple user, there isn't much hope for me either. The unit I received would NOT update, no matter what I tried. I got the app, got it to start updating, it would take forever, and never update. I even left it overnight. I also borrowed an iPhone to try and update it that way. Still no luck, wouldn't update, and in fact actually scared me when it didn't seem to work shortly after the attempt. Thankfully it did work. I decided to overlook the update for now. Meanwhile, I barely used the Artiphon, and the strings started acting up! It was almost as if it played on its own! The higher strums especially! The lower strums worked fine, the higher one, I barely press on it, and it plays that note a million times, with me barely moving it at all! I also do not like how there's such a fine line of pressure needed to activate the frets, For instance on the E string, push on it too lightly and it still registers as an E. Push it only very slightly more, and it works, sometimes. Other times, it plays the note as if I plucked the string, which is NOT what I did! And it's not just the E string, it's all the strings! Terrible. I contacted support, and they helped me. Oh no wait, that's a total lie. Contacted them, no response. Contacted them again, no response. Contacted AGAIN, no response! On their website, they said they answer within 48 hours. I've been waiting for a response since May 9th! This review was written on July 19th! Quite disappointing. The only reason this did not get 1 star, is because it technically works. I didn't get a unit that was DOA, and it is still somewhat playable. But these flaws cannot be ignored. My advice, there's a reason it's called the INSTRUMENT 1. My guess is that there will someday be an INSTRUMENT 2. Wait for that one. Hopefully it'll be much more improved, less broken, and there will be more love for Windows users. Hopefully.

Amazing ( 6 month update)
I've had the instrument 1 for about a month and i get more and more excited about it every day. the possibilities for this thing are endless!! such a cool tool for any creator of music. I have been a guitar player my whole life, so to have a midi controller in a familiar form is HUGE!After 6 months....I'm still absolutely loving this thing. The longer I have the instrument 1, the more i realize this piece of equipment is WHATEVER you want it to be. The "fretboard" is still very responsive and the neck feels good in the hands. Currently working on incorporating the i1 to my live performance. 5/5!

Defective piece. Does not get charged despite greenlight coming on after hours of charging
Amazon seems to have sent a defective piece. Conked off within a week of opening. Exactly one day after the return period. Artiphon does not assist at all in ensuring a replacement, fixing, or honoring the 1 year warranty since they claim that the seller is not an official seller.

une fois bien réglé c'est top, n'oubliez pas d'utiliser un plugin vst en MPE c'est encore mieux

Nice instrument
I'm having fun with this wish I had more time. Only criticism is I wish the software interface looked more pro audio, it has a juvenile design. It works fine, just doesn't look pro. But the instrument / controller is great.

Fantastic
Allows you to play any instrument you like as you would a guitar and have the midi blocks recorded into Ableton. You can strum an acoustic guitar, a sitar, or a grand piano. Before buying the instrument I hardly touched the guitar but wanted to learn in a way that was totally silent. I live in shared housing with very thin walls. I wanted to be able to play while the person in the room next to mine was asleep. Some say that you can do that with an electric guitar but this is a lot more portable.I didn't know how to play before I got the instrument but after a few guitar tutorials I was able to play along to various songs on the record. My first impression when trying the instrument was that I had made a mistake as it seemed to have a slightly... what's the word... neurotic? response. After doing some firmware updates and plugging it into my MacBook (The Windows software doesn't really work) it began to work a lot better. If you're an experienced guitar player this thing might seem like a quite alien experience but since I was learning to play on this instrument from square one it was fine for me.It's relatively easy on the fingers. Many years ago, when I was growing up, I very briefly tried to learn to play someone else's guitar (I'd forgotten everything since then) but I found the pain was limiting the amount of time I could spend practicing. With this you can play for pretty much however long you want even if your fingers aren't hardened. Despite it being soft to play my fingers have gradually hardened a bit anyway, but this was basically painless experience.I think it's a good thing to buy if you want something that's quite portable and allows you to adjust the notes you pick or strum.
