Useful, affordable
This device is quite useful. When the 3-way circuit for our stairway light failed, we purchased this and two key chain receivers to toggle the light when we used the stairs. It works well! The device is pretty big in terms of electrical receptacles. Be aware of that when making this purchase, it's larger than most of those blocky adapters that get a special space on a surge protector. Don't expect this to tuck snuggly behind a bookshelf. The device also makes a slight clicking sound when toggled, it's normal and unless you're standing right over it, it's not noticeable, but it freaked me out the first time I used it.

Magnificently convenient device
I did a LOT of research online about remote outlet switches, and became very skeptical since most seemed to be made by no-name, generic (Chinese) manufacturers that had received written reviews of high failure rates or disappointing performance. I have only had my GE Smart Remote system a couple of days, but am thrilled with its operation. There is no "set-up" to really even speak of... you simply plug in the receiver into the outlet, and set it to one of eight channels using the dial on the face of the unit. Then to turn on or off the light or appliance connected to the receiver, you simply set the remote switch to the same channel as the light/device in question, and then hit the on/off button on the remote unit. That's it. The receiver is sold separately from the remote switch (as in the above item listing), but is also sold on Amazon in a combination pack with the remote.I was skeptical about how well the remote switch would work, considering that my appliances were several tens of feet away from the receivers, and that the signal had to pass through walls and floor to my lower level. It works without a hitch. I am able to turn off my internet FIOS box and router (each connected to a separate receiver) from my upstairs living area after every session on my PC. I do not consider myself a lazy person in the least, but it is nice as hell to be able to cut power to those devices when not in use - WITHOUT having to physically walk down into my basement or garage multiple times a day to do so. In my case, the purchase price of the switch remote and two receivers will pay for itself in about one year with the electricity savings I will see by powering off the devices after every PC session.I suppose the true acid test of these units will be how long they actually last. But since I cannot write a review now based on how long they may or may not work, I can only review them for how they work as of current - which is wonderfully. Each one (receiver and remote) runs on a single 12V battery, but my units (which were in original manufacturer packaging) came with a functional battery. Also, be advised that the receivers are compatible with grounded, three-pronged appliance plugs, which I did not see listed or advertised as such anywhere in the sale listings. For the convenience and energy savings that these units provide, they are really hard to beat.

Misleading Name
It maybe just me, but when I saw the title of the product saying "3 Piece Shelf Rack", I thought I would get 3 of these things in mail, I was shocked to just get only one. The shock comes form the fact that at the price at which this thing is selling, you can get both the receiver and remote!I bought it at this high price only because I thought it was a 3 pack. If you want just one, the Receiver + Remote package deal comes cheaper. Just go for that. The unit by itself works very well though.Update(4/5/2013): Since I wrote this review, the seller has changed the product description. Looks like my feedback was considered! Thank you!

Good but pricey
Worked well for what I wanted it for once I got the right transmitters. There is SmarHome and SmartHome Plus, don't mix and match. Buy all of one kind, SmartHome Plus is the newer version. Usually sold in pairs 1 each (transmitter and receiver). I wanted one Receiver and 3 Transmitters making it much more difficult to find. I got a mix of SmarHome and SmartHome Plus from 2 different venders, they weren't compatible. So buy all you get from the same vendor and make sure they are compatible before you buy. Stanley makes a similar product for less but is harder to find, around $15. for a pair.

no better option period. Highly recommended.
This GE series (together with the 51147 remote, http://www.amazon.com/GE-51147-Wireless-Remote-Transmitter/dp/B00032ATU6) has no equivalent on the market.First you have 8 channels to chose for devices in your house.Second, you can have your own "house" code (4 options) so if your neighbor has one of these, you can just change the code and problem solved. Effectively you have 32 channels to choose from.Third, you can get as many remotes as you wish, so I have a total of 3 remotes in my bedroom: one of each side of the bed and another at the entrance to the room. If I had to re-wire the bedroom just for that, it would have cost me a lot more the roughly $45 bucks I paid for this, not to mention the mess involved. Before I had this product, I had a simpler ones I picked up at walgreens a few years ago. They were $17 for the set but the code was fixed so I had to buy a few sets just to get additional remotes (so it wasn't cheap anymore). Worst of all, I had a neighbor with the exact same device (same code) so every now and then, he used to turn the light off in my room, at the end I just scraped the idea.Even my wife, who hates anything that has to do with electrical gadgets loves this product.
