Really great Reference book for those who are farmers or crafters to know what's legal poppy wise!
I am a gardener and I just purchased a farm and I'm learning how to grow food and flowers for my family and for crafts :) I'm looking forward to selling beautiful crafts made with things that I grew in my own soil! Open air markets and farmers markets is how I'm going to retireHappy for making pretty flower arrangements Christmas wreaths and other decorative items I wanted to make sure I knew what the laws were concerning these flowers called the poppyAccording to federal law the poppy is legal to grow and legal to sell as a flower weather dried or fresh but you're not allowed to cut it open because apparently they use it for drugs but seeing that I'm almost 60 there is no need for me to do that :) I wouldn't want to but this is a great book as far as the history of this flower and what you can and cannot do with itI'm really grateful for Amazon selling this product and for the writer putting together such a great knowledgeable book on these gorgeous flowers that make the most amazing Christmas decorations you can find! Thank you

Good info, lots of history
Would have enjoyed more from the book if it had FAR more regarding the plant's structure (botanical observations) & less on it's use in manufactured pharmaceuticals. It's packed with interesting history, albeit not much in the 'layman's' way of " harnessing" any useful "power of the poppy" without a chemist or physician. A great book on the history of the poppy's influence on war, trade, politics,& the laws, corruption, & the suffering of many.

Great Book!! one you can read over & over
This is really good book! It looks at papaver somniferum in a different way, viewing it as a plant that we can learn from it instead of having this huge stigma attached to it. There is so much info I would run out of space here..if you want a really informative book about poppy/opiates, this is a great one, the author has a segment for getting off opiates as well. The author writes about the poppy as being a powerful plant and it is kind of a shamanistic sort of thing. I love his view on p. Somniferum. Tons of interesting facts too.

If you like the poppy and or its byproducts this is great!
This book covers a good chunk of the poppy and what she has to offer. Good or bad is not the story. This is history and proven history at that.

A better overview (or perhaps a more English overview) of the ...
This was a very interesting book if you want a bit of history on the poppy andits relatives, but it had a weird flavour of the 'weird and whacky' in it, leaning towards those who fancy dabbling with the poppy andits derivatives and I did find the middle portion of the book (where 'users' are described) a bit depresssing. A better overview (or perhaps a more English overview) of the effects of Poppy & co can be gleaned from an interesting, real-life, hands on book "Where does it hurt" by Max Pemberton.
