dark, intense, steamy, angsty, dramatic with suspense and twists.
The story is dark, intense, steamy, angsty, dramatic with suspense and twists. It is a dark, college romance novel with twists that will keep the readers on the edge. There is a lot of chemistry and steam between the protagonists. It does not have a particularly strong female protagonist in the beginning but becomes one by the end of the book. The story is long but absorbing, with twisted characters and comes with a lot of trigger warnings. But if the readers like this genre, they will enjoy this read. It is a highly recommended book for readers who like this genre.Personal Take:I really like the way @shantel_tessier narrates her stories. This was story was entertaining and got me hooked almost immediately. Even though it took me a while to finish it, I couldn't wait to read what will happen next.

Addicting....but unputdownable....no
I've read alot of dark romances, this was by far the most questionable MMC. Yes he beat Zade meadows in the morally grey department. Tbh Ryat Archer isn't morally grey...he would be black. Definitely the darkest college romance I've read till date.Heavy on the bdsm and smut if that's not your thing you shouldn't pick this one up.Let's not talk about the trigger warnings.

Amazing!
It was an enjoyable read and with all the secret society stuff, I felt like the author was describing a whole another world which had it's own rules and secrets. It was intriguing, mind-blowing, steamy and gritty with some twists, danger and a pinch of suspense. Ryat & Blakely had scorching chemistry. Ryat captivated me from the very first encounter. He was strong, determined, OTT jealous and possessive of Blake but he always protected her and did everything necessary to prevent her from getting hurt. When I got a first glimpse of Blake, I thought that she'd be demure, shy or weak but the fight she had in her totally surprised me. Both her and Ryat weren't perfect but they left their mark on me!

It's one of my favorite dark romance books and one of my favorite book boyfriends.
Re-reading as audibleI read this book in 2023 and am now listening to the audio. Am so happy i did. It was a duet, and it brought out a lot more emotions.I read up to book 4 in the lords series, and this is still my favorite. This book felt more grounded and almost had more realism compared to others in the series. It questions things about being a chosen, a lord and what it entails especially epilogue, when the f m c questioned her daughter and her son's position in the world of the lords and she did not like it at all.The beginningRyat- he was so sexy. It did annoy me that he never actually wanted Blakely. I thought he was going to be harsh and revengeful, knowing that's his ex best friend girlfriend. But he kind of sweet, yet so rough. And there weren't any bullying, thank god. Ryat is still brutal. He behaves so adult, like I forget he's still in college. He's like twenty, but to be honest, I feel more like he's forty-one. His internal dialogue was so unhinged, but he was a little romantic. Blakely- After reading the rest of the series , I realized she is the best FMC. She is strong and demanding when she needs to be but still very freaky. She is very, very freaky for a virgin. Comparing this to other books, i felt like she had the best father figure in this environment. The L.O.R.D world is brutal for all women. They are considered nothing more than playthings, even the parents, especially men in the family. It created an uneasy atmosphere when there are dialogues or situations involving the Fmc. I get so nervous. She also mentioned a few things about the workings of the lords and it got me thinking about the chosen. The fact that the parents let their daughters become chosen for other lords, which can be so sadistic. It's just hurt my heart.Ending - not gonna lie. There is so much smut. The plot was still very strong only towards the end of the book. I was so intrigued around the rules and regulations of being the lords that I wish the book explained more in detail. It comes off as a cult organization but a very sophisticated version that includes billionaires, political people, and criminals, with strong sexist beliefs. People were being murdered without a care in the world. And the ending was so good. The epilogue was also great. After reading the legacy of god series, I now want a book of the kids Pronto.P.s. Why does it seem that the second book was supposed to be Tyson's own? Because there were so many Easter eggs for his own book whenever he had a scene with the couple.

A Riveting Journey into Darkness
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥This is my first encounter with the talented Shantel Tessier, and let me just say, "Wow!" "The Ritual (L.O.R.D.S. #1)" took me on a rollercoaster of emotions that I wasn't prepared for, but boy, am I glad I took the ride. From the very beginning, Tessier warns readers of trigger warnings, and trust me, they are there for a reason. This book is a captivating exploration of the dark side, filled with suspense that keeps you on the edge of your seat. Even though I thought I knew what I was getting into, the author constantly threw curveballs, leaving me in a state of perpetual surprise.Barrington University sets the stage for the Lords, a secret society whose power knows no bounds. The narrative is centered around the protagonist's life being meticulously planned until Ryat Alexander Archer presents her with a tantalizing option—freedom. Little did she know, it was just another manipulation by the Lords. The suspense in this book is like a maze, and just when you think you've figured it out, Tessier leads you down a different path. The author weaves a tale of deception, power, and survival that had me hooked from start to finish. The darkness within the Lords' world is palpable, and the characters are so intricately crafted that you can't help but be invested in their fates.Despite the unsettling themes, I couldn't put this book down. Tessier's writing style is gripping, and she skillfully navigates the fine line between suspense and discomfort. It's a testament to her storytelling prowess that she can make you question everything and still keep you hungry for more.In conclusion, "The Ritual" is an intense and thrilling journey into the shadows of power, manipulation, and survival. Shantel Tessier has created a masterpiece that left me yearning for more, and I can confidently say she has gained a new fan. This book is not for the faint of heart, but if you crave a story that challenges your expectations and keeps you guessing until the very end, dive into "The Ritual." I'm eagerly anticipating more from this incredible author in the near future.

Unquestionably dark, but equally romantic
This is to romance what full frontal is to art photography. Beauty for some, offensive for others. Well developed characters include a charming young sadist who, despite enthusiastic torture and killing, lingers in the memory more for his seductive charm than his sadism. Does not shy away from… well, anything much. Dialogue, pace and plot (twists) earn a must-read-in-24-hours full five stars for me.
