Hilariously Worthless
There are times when you see a product and simply fall in love. At these moments, you convince yourself that the item is going to make your life more beautiful and rich with the blissful happiness that comes exclusively from finding that one special item, the treasure of time spent searching. When that moment occurs, you worry little about the cost but wait impatiently for the product to arrive. Such was the case when I first saw the Balabella Bamboo Desk Organizer. The pictures make it look so cute and efficient. It matches my home's decor. Also, I just know my husband would love it, and he hates almost everything that I buy that does not revolve around a meal or a football game.Sadly, this product was a complete disappointment. The package arrive on time and in perfect condition. The review is going to take a decided turn from this point forward.Where to begin? I am not really sure, but let's just say that opening the package was probably the most efficient use of time and energy associated with this product. When I opened the package, all these pieces of wood came sliding out, four square boards and seven thin slats. You know, that is not a big deal because I knew there was going to be a certain amount of assembly involved. The screws that came with the package were in a small bag that sealed on the open end. I noticed almost immediately that the bag was not new and quite well worn, not slightly but entirely. It looked as if it had been in the floor board of a farm truck for a few years. This bothered me because I actually feel that a new product should be new, but let's not dwell upon the shortcomings of a small plastic bag because there are several other shortcomings to rant about. The instructions appear in the form of a single sheet of paper with diagrams and instructions written in Chinese. In Chinese! I mean, if the instructions were in Spanish, French, Italian, Portuguese and even German, I would have a fair chance to figure out what they mean from general association from the words I already know, but at least I could use Google Translate for what I do not understand. I have no idea how to begin to decipher Chinese. Very well, this is a non-issue since there are diagrams. How hard could it be?The answer is worse than you would expect. The four square boards are supposed to form two end pieced and two interior supports to separate the books or decor. Grooves are cut in the bottom of the boards to allow for the placement of the slats, and the screws will fit into the slats and boards to hold everything together. At least, that would have been the case, but there were no grooves cut in bottom of the boards. There were some pilot holes drilled into the bottom of the boards, but they were so poorly aligned that the holes serve much more of a decorative function than a practical one. In fact, none of the pilot holes aligned to anything else in the project. The pre-drilled holes in the slats do little more than present an idea of where you would use the screws, but to tell you the truth, I have no idea how the whole thing would stay together even if the holes were aligned properly. See, the visual diagrams that were supposed to help me figure out how to put the darn thing together were completely worthless. No, I did not spend an hour or more trying to put it together. It became almost immediately obvious that this was nothing but garbage, and I realized that I most likely was not the first owner of this Balabella Bamboo Desk Organizer, still not over this bag that had obviously seen its better days. Here is an idea. Find someone you need to buy a gift for but do not really like, maybe someone who bought your kid a drum last Christmas, and your kids keeps finding it no matter how many time and no matter where you hide it. Buy them this. You get credit for buying them a gift, but you might fill their time with anger and frustration. At the very least, you have given them some worthless pieces of wood and some used screws. Give it to the angriest person you know and just wait for the show. This is a terrible product. Save your money, or if you feel like you must buy it, make sure you buy a set of shelves to hold the pieces and parts of your Balabella Bamboo Desk Organizer. I intend to spend a great deal of my time over the next few years for a product as poor as this one, and while I am on this quest, perhaps I shall reach some sort of epiphany about mankind, womankind, dogkind, etc. The point is, the standard has been set.

Pain in the butt to set up, instructions are terrible, but it does look good
The media could not be loaded. UPDATE 9/29/16 - While browsing Amazon I found the same organizer for about $13. Here is the Furinno FNCL-33021 Bamboo Extension Book Rack, Natural . This why I had to take off one star because technically this is a rip off.The bamboo desk organizer came in a box that made it look like a keyboard was in there. I was surprised by how small the box made the product seem. It came with an instruction manual that was terrible. The directions were hard to understand. I tried to set this up, but failed miserably. Then, I had a family member who is good at these kind of things set it up and it came out just like the picture. I’ve uploaded a video to give anyone who is having trouble setting up the bookshelf a visual guide. I wish I would’ve recorded it when we were setting it up.Overall, the bamboo organizer does what its supposed to. I’ve had no problems putting heavier textbooks on it. I really like that it is expandable because it means I can store a few books on the bookshelf and not worry about the books falling down. The wood pieces are not incredibly strong. The wood is very similar to target book shelf wood. That is why I have taken down one star. For the price I would expect the wood to be much stronger. This bookshelf seems like if I were to drop it the wood would break into two. While screwing in the screws I was rather scared that I would destroy the wood. So, don’t use a drill when screwing rather use the manual screw drivers.I would only recommend getting this product if the price was around $10-20. The current price tag of $35 just doesn’t make sense to me. It is an attractive desk organizer, but I’m sure you can find better at Walmart or Target.Disclosure: I received the Bamboo desk organizer at a reduced price to test quality and provide honest feedback.

I put ikea furniture together for fun, so when i saw the reviews had issues with instructions it wasnt a concern for me. my screws were rolling all over the inside of the box scratching up the bamboo. the instructions were difficult to follow, i wouldnt say they are accurate. Once i threw out the instructions and looked at my pieces with common sense it went together in less than 10 minutes. it expands quite a lot and it looks ok.

Instructions not clear. Had to piece it together on my own. However, it does work for what I needed - to hold 3 ringed binders on my desk.
