Rock Steady: Healing Vertigo or Tinnitus with Neuroplasticity

great value
the book is extremely useful as an add on to other treatments you may be using. Her enthusiasm leaps off the page and she has restored much of my confidence in CBT and mindfulness. I am now looking far more positively at the world. I do follow her podcasts but the fact I live in Hungary prohibits me learning more directly. I have my other options for this but the book really guided me and continues to guide me in the right direction. I bought the audible and also the kindle version so I can follow the reading. This just increases your consumption of the material and helps considerably. I also use OTO and sound therapy. I am now in a much better position than I was 3 months ago when my problem started.

Valuable Self Discovery
I have just read the first chapter! After reading the first chapter, I feel hopeful, excited and calm... all at the same time. I have mounted the horse and about to take the reins and as we move off on a journey of discovery, I make sure I’ve got my packed lunch, water bottle, helmet and resources safely surrounding me for support. It has left me feeling empowered. I can hear your voice whilst reading the words, it’s familiar but also challenging. At the end of the chapter....the summary clarifies and re-emphasises key points which can be easily accessed for reference and consolidation. It goes without saying that Joey has put her heart and soul into the book and has gone the extra mile (or kilometre) to give much, much more! She has reached anyone who wants to search within, not only to relieve unwanted sensations but to learn and practice the art of real, self discovery. I can’t wait to search those layers in myself and I’m intrigued to discover what lies there. Curiosity indeed! 🤔❤️

Feeling into my healing
I started to experience tinnitus and some dizziness about 3 weeks ago out of nowhere. In the beginning, I was in despair, felt incredibly hopeless, frustrated and had many sleepless nights. I went to see my GP who referred me to an audiologist, and aside from some mild hearing loss in my left ear, everything looked healthy and fine. I’m completely mindful that in light of Covid, getting any further referrals for tinnitus retraining therapy or additional testing can take months, so rather than waiting for additional support, I decided to take matters into my own hands and be proactive about finding my own way of taking control of my body again.I by chance came across Joey’s book on Youtube and it has given me such a strong source of comfort and reassurance. It’s taken me a week to get through your book, but I really appreciate how you have explained something that would otherwise be so complex in a way that I can digest and better understand. I’ve realized with the tools you have provided, by practicing daily body scans and focusing my energy on my desired daily sensations and things that bring me joy, take that ‘no big deal’ approach even if I’m NQR (not quite right), I can in time, learn to be the engineer of my own body.By taking the time to tune in to my feelings every day and honestly, I get more curious about my body with each passing day. I’m no longer fighting unwanted feelings or sensations, but instead, allowing them to be present and learning to feel comfortable with it. I am normal, and I will be fine in time as I build towards focusing on my new normal. I feel hope and more confidence knowing I can get through this, one day at a time. Thank you so much Joey. Honestly, you are a gift.

Good advice
I liked how the book doesn't promise quick fixes that don't work. Hopefully one day imbalances within will go away.

Buy this book!
After watching a few of Joeys YouTube clips I was really excited to hear she was releasing this book especially as I couldn’t afford to do the rock steady programme. I read this book over a weekend, really easy to read with the added bonus of an online workbook! This was really handy as I had lent the book to two other people. This is a unique book in that it is personal to the reader and their own life story. I found the body scan a revelation and after two weeks my morning anxiety literally disappeared, and I’m still practising how to do it! I have also made some really tiny lifestyle choices which have had a huge impact. Having tinnitus and feeling NQR this book has been educational, reassuring and empowering, I can’t wait to get my book back!

Incredible and important book for anyone who takes their health and happiness seriously.
Wow. Incredible book of years and years of complex research, experience and self reflection. This book is so important in terms of empowering individuals to take their health into their own hands. And with the tools to do it! I can’t express my gratitude for Joey’s work enough. It has changed my inner world and therefore, my life. Thank you Joey - this book was so timely after a rough period in lockdown. Not only have a changed my relationship with my vertigo and tinnitus, it has changed my relationship with my self.

Great book - essential reading for anyone with vertigo
Excellent, clear information about the many conditions that can cause vertigo, and how to reframe our thoughts about this distressing condition. I love the idea of using neuroplasticity to rewire our brain. We shouldn’t push thoughts or sensations away. Rather, we need to focus on different thoughts and sensations. Just what I needed x

OK but have to buy into therapy online!
It's a good book and can help in your hour of need but unfortunately to gain full insight you need to enroll into the rock steady program which is a lot more ££££!7 months in ( bought the book around 2 months into my tinnitus) and I've found that I've naturally habituated to my tinnitus, can't really say if the book helped me achieve this, but that's just me. Everyone is different and any help/advice when tinnitus is really hammering you is appreciated!

It is an amazing resource to have!
This book is a great resource to have if you are dealing with tinnitus and vertigo. It is filled with definitions, case studies and exercises that can help you feel better and get more in control of your life. Especially helpful if you have limited access to your doctors or they don't have much information on the why you are feeling this way.

highly recommend!
I do not usually write reviews, but thought this one warranted it. I am a Cognitive Behavioral Therapist, going on nearly 30 years now. Nine months ago, I developed very problematic and anxiety producing uni-lateral tinnitus. I have been struggling through the habituation (a term the author does not use) process since then. I first tried the most popular Audiologist approach of TRT (tinnitus retraining therapy). The in-ear sound level noise, put through a very costly hearing aid device, did not do it for me. It was promoted as the best solution for those struggling with troublesome tinnitus. Sometimes it seemed to help soften the anxiety promoting sensations, but quite often seemed to make it worse. I stumbled onto this Rock Steady book in my ongoing research for help.I have found this to be the best source I have read. It is full of very encouraging, sound, comforting material. During my first read, admittedly being a little skeptical of how useful this "touchy-feely" approach would be, I realized that there is a lot of wisdom in here. So I went back through it with a hi-liter to mark significant helpful thoughts and ideas of the author. After reading the book a second time, I realized I had marked nearly 3/4 of the book. For me, the best of the book was its cognitive-behavioral content and the science of neuroplasticity. Admittedly, based upon my vocation as a CBT therapist, I am drawn to the proven rational side of things. And this book is full of that. In fact, I felt just reading through it and meditating on healing through neuroplasticity was very therapeutic and helped me reach the next stage of habituation in my journey. For me, I am not so drawn to the Yoga/body scan approach to her practical methodology of how to achieve neuroplastic changes in the brain, but again, to the cognitive rational part of her message. Could say much more but will stop there. I would highly recommend this book for anyone going through "troublesome" tinnitus, which I believe is nothing more or less than an anxiety disorder, as most who develop tinnitus, are not particularly troubled by it. Seems unfair! Oh well... the author would challenge such a thought.

Didn't work for me
I started in the book, never finished it. The method puts way too much emphasis on hearing the tinnitus sounds. Maybe that is helpful for beginners, new sufferers, but I've had tinnitus since 2009 so I already learnt to not let it be overly present. This book had me focus on it which seemingly made it worse as I was now suddenly constantly aware of the noise in my head.I love working with neuroplasticity, but I prefer to use Dr Joe Dispenza's method for that. Plenty of free material of that on YouTube or on his site.I know many benefitted from this rock steady method, but for me it was a waste of money. And cost me time & energy to get back to where I was before reading in it and following her online: having tinnitus but not letting it bother me.I'm currently getting treatment from a cranio-facial therapist that often is successful with tinnitus alleviation or healing. The tinnitus is mostly in neck & shoulder muscles that are way too tight after 2 accidents. Her treatment fills me with hope where the rock steady method didn't do anything for me but make it (seemingly) worse. If you're new to it or the cause is different for you, this might work. For me it was a waste of money and time.

Maravilloso
